Buon Ma Thuot sits in the Central Highlands and produces a huge share of Vietnam's coffee — the region's rich volcanic soil and elevation make it some of the best robusta-growing land in the world.

Changing money the wrong way costs you real money before your trip has even started properly. Here's the honest breakdown.

🏦 BANKS — reliable rates, official receipt, slightly slower process
🏪 LICENSED EXCHANGE COUNTERS — gold shops that also handle currency exchange are common and generally fair, especially in cities
❌ AIRPORT COUNTERS — worst rates almost everywhere in the world, Vietnam included. Change only what you need for the taxi into town.
❌ STREET MONEY CHANGERS — avoid entirely. No recourse if you're shorted, and it happens.
🏧 ATMs — a straightforward option too, usually a fair rate minus a fixed withdrawal fee

Bring USD in cash as a backup even if you're mainly using cards — it's widely accepted for exchange and occasionally for payment directly in tourist areas.

🚧 A RIVER USED TO BE THE BORDER BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES CALLED VIETNAM

Between 1954 and 1975, the Ben Hai River marked the line dividing North and South Vietnam — the Demilitarized Zone, a strip of land either side that saw some of the war's heaviest fighting.

The Hien Luong Bridge, painted two different colours on each half for years, still stands across the river. Nearby, the Vinh Moc tunnels — an entire underground village dug to shelter from constant bombing, complete with a maternity room where children were born below ground.

It's a heavy day, and an honest one. Our guides here have often grown up with family stories from this exact period, and the history comes from that, not a script.

Quy Nhon sits on Vietnam's south-central coast, and it's kept a working-city feel that busier beach destinations lost a while back — fishing boats still dock along the same waterfront as the hotels, and the beach in the city centre rarely feels crowded even in peak season.

Twin Cham towers, over a thousand years old, stand on a low hill just outside the centre — a quieter, less-visited counterpart to the towers further south in Nha Trang.

Further along the coast, Ky Co and Eo Gio offer the kind of clear water and empty coves that made Nha Trang famous before it got busy. Fishing villages here still run on their own schedule, unbothered by tourism.

Adults: USD 315 each (2 pax sharing rate) = USD 630
Child, 8 years old: half fare = USD 157.50
Child, 4 years old: FREE (under 5, sharing with parents)
