While Hanoi has 1,000 years of history, Ho Chi Minh City is a relatively new settlement. The name of Saigon was registered for the first time in documents dating back to 1698. Due to its favorable geographical location, topography and climate, this area rapidly became a converging point for traders from all over the world. Saigon Port was built in 1862 and foreign traders quickly became familiar with the Ong Lanh Market, Ray Market, Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Market. Hochiminh City is where the heroic resistance against aggressors and the struggling process for independence of the Vietnamese Nation began. It was also where the Ho Chi Minh Campaign triumphantly finished on 30 April 1975. At the first session of the 6th National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, in July 1976, the name of the city was officially changed to Ho Chi Minh City.
This city is the heart and soul of Vietnam. Not only the largest city of the country, it is also the most bustling, dynamic and industrious centre of commerce, economy, science, technology and tourism, as well as a cultural trendsetter. Yet within the teeming metropolis are the timeless traditions and beauty of an ancient culture with shaded boulevards, pavement cafes and French-styled buildings helping it to by the French as the Pearl of the Orient, the city possesses various beautiful buildings, displaying a characteristic combination of Vietnamese, Chinese and European cultures.
The country is granted a tropical monsoon climate with diversified characteristics varied significantly from North to South, from frosty winters to the year-round subequatorial warmth. At sea level, the mean annual temperature is about 27°C in the south, falling to about 21°C in the far north. In South Vietnam, the rainy season lasts from May to November, but the showers are usually limited to brief bursts in the late afternoons. Along Vietnam’s central coast, the driest season runs from June to October. Visitors to North Vietnam are often surprised by the sregion's distinct seasons; summers are hot and humid while winters are invigoratingly cool. As a result, each region has its best time for visiting: Hanoi from September to May with a pleasant winter, Hue from March to August with a sunny summer and Ho Chi Minh City with warm weather the whole year round.

Let's we do it for you

The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Củ Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War, and were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tết Offensive in 1968.

The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters. The tunnel systems were of great importance to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American forces, and helped to counter the growing American military effort.

Guest Review: Seeing and going into the Cu Chi tunnels was an amazing experience. The history behind them is amazing and it was very interesting to see how they lived underground. We went down into the tunnels and saw bats while crawling through the 100m long tunnel. A highlight if our trip. I would recommend some old clothes or clothes you don't mind getting dirty as you do have to crawl through parts of the tunnel. Would definitely recommend to others.

Cu Chi Tunnels - Half day
Classification: standard quality, joy group tour.
Duration: 1/2 day - Depart: 8:00 am - Return: 2:30 pm
- Depart: 1:00 pm - Return: 6:30 pm
Tour details:
An extremely complex tunnel system, the Cu Chi network covers a wide area of countryside near to Ho Chi Minh city and was an excellent way for the Viet Kong to move undetected by American forces underground. This evocative day tour explores the struggle of everyday life during the Vietnam War from a local perspective and takes you deep underground to explore the tunnels.

The Cu Chi tour starts with an introductory video detailing its long 25-year construction. Then it is time to go underground in the infamous 120-mile Cu Chi tunnel system which offered a safe haven for soldiers and thousands of Vietnamese people during the Vietnam War. It is virtually an underground city with dwelling houses, schools, hospitals and factories.

On display are b***y traps, the remains of a US army tank and huge craters left by American B52 bombs. You will be able to admire lots of compelling photos and personal effects left behind.

There is also the chance to play real war games firing an authentic AK rifle used during the war.

2-day Mekong Delta River Cruise to the Floating Markets of Cai Be and Cai Rang
Day 1: Panorama River Cruise
In the morning we take you to Can Tho or Cai Be. You board your comfortable wooden river cruise vessel around noon. After a refreshing welcome drink we show you our on-board facilities and your cosy cabin. As lunch is served, the boat starts cruising. Sit back and watch the fantastic scenery and the daily life of the Mekong people.

In the afternoon you can disembark for a guided leisurely stroll through a village and the surrounding fruit orchards or rice fields. Meet the friendly locals and taste the local produce and fruits.

Get back on board and enjoy a drink at the bar or relax on deck as the sun sets over the magnificent water landscape of the Mekong river. The cruise boat will anchor for the night. The day ends with a delicious on-board dinner. You stay overnight on board your floating hotel in the Mekong Delta.
Meals: L, D

Day 2: Cai Rang / Cai Be Floating Market
Wake up well rested to the sound of the river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. At 6.30h the cruise vessel sets off for a sunrise cruise. Watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships on the wooden yards while enjoying an early breakfast.

After breakfast, we will board a sampan boat to Cai Be or Cai Rang floating market, the region’s busiest and most lively markets. Marvel at the sheer abundance of exotic fruits, vegetables and skilfully handcrafted regional products. We will pull up to the boats for talking and bargaining with the merchants. We will also visit some of the local candy and cake making factories or boat through the green water landscape to see local houses, verdant orchards and ship-building yards.

N. B.: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where produce of the Mekong Delta like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam. This can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present on the markets.

After brunch on board (Can Tho) or lunch at Mekong Rest Stop near My Tho we will take you back your hotel in Saigon.
Meals: B, L

Our tours include
Road transfer from / to Saigon (private transfer with Gecko Eyes)
Accommodation in cosy double or twin bedded cabins
4 savoury meals
Mineral water placed in your cabin
Side trips on sampans as mentioned in the itineraries.
