Hoi An ancient city hosts second lantern night festival in Germany

The ancient city of Hoi An kicked off the second Hoi An lantern festival at Marktplatz Square in Wernigerode, its German twin town, on August 24 to mark the 5th anniversary of cooperation between the two cities.

In his remarks at the festival’s opening night, German Minister for Economy, Science and Digitalisation of Sachsen-Anhalt State Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann expressed his delight at the growing relations between Hoi An and Wernigerode.

He noted that over the past five years, the two cities have co-hosted a number of exchange events and enjoyed successful cooperation in economics, culture, education and environment, adding that he expects the bilateral ties will grow further towards sustainability in the coming years.

Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee, hoped that the festival will be an opportunity for the ancient city to promote the beauty of its traditional culture to locals in Wernigerode, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two peoples in the future.

What to do in Tra Que Vegetable Village: Become a Farmer for a Day!

After spending time exploring the ancient town of Hoi An and swimming in An Bang Beach, you will be amazed by the beauty and tranquility of Tra Que Vegetable Village, a traditional village of Hoi An.

Hoi An is one of the most famous travel destinations in Vietnam due to its unrivaled beauty of the ancient town, tranquil atmosphere that permeates the whole city, and a magnificent view of the white sands of An Bang Beach. These are travel attractions that most tourists visit in Hoi An. However, there is another place that is peaceful and less-known but this makes it worth visiting, Tra Que Vegetable Village. It will be a great experience to visit the vast green vegetable gardens and see how local farmer work their land.

Introduction to Tra Que Vegetable Village

Tra Que Vegetable Village is three kilometers to the northeast of Hoi An Ancient Town. This land is 300 years old and surrounded by the De Vong River and Tra Que Lagoon.

The village supplies fresh and organic vegetables to restaurants, hotels, and local people in Hoi An, other districts in Quang Nam, and Da Nang city. Tra Que vegetables make up the unique flavors of the specialties in Hoi An such as tom huu, banh xeo, cao lau, mi quang, and more. Tra Que grows many kinds of vegetables used to make medicine and improve health as well.

When visiting Tra Que Village, you can feel the identity of a traditional village and witness the panoramic view of the green vegetable gardens. Meanwhile, the active lives of the local farmers are ongoing, as they care for and harvest their vegetables.

Be Enchanted by Hoi An’s Ancient Town

Hoi An Ancient Town is stunning. It’s beautiful during the day with its rows of preserved shophouses and dangling paper lanterns. Walking down its streets, you feel like you’re in 17th century Vietnam.

But at night, when the lanterns are lit up and the streets come alive with people, it feels almost like a dream. When we were there the first night, we could tell exactly which tourists had just arrived in Hoi An. They had the same awestruck look on their faces as we did.

Hoi An, at any time of the day, is one of the most beautiful towns we’ve been to in Southeast Asia. As described, most tourists to Vietnam spend the majority of their time here. Spend one day in Hoi An and you’ll understand why. Check out my post on Hoi An Ancient Town for more pictures and information.

Please be advised that you’ll need a ticket to enter some attractions like the Japanese Bridge and Phuoc Kien Assembly Hall. The Ancient Town entrance ticket costs VND 120,000 and includes 5 passes that you can use at any of the 22 sightseeing attractions in town.

It’s easy enough to explore the Ancient Town on your own but if you’d like to have a local explain everything to you, then you may be interested in booking a guided tour.

Something in the local water makes Vietnam’s cao lau noodles special

Hoi An’s signature noodle dish is the history of the city in a bowl. The cuisines of foreign traders have been added ingredients over time but it is still quintessentially Vietnamese

Once a key trading post on the Spice Route linking the orient and the occident, the ancient riverside port of Hoi An in central Vietnam has always been a melting pot of cultures and cuisines. It remains a honey pot for travellers – its streets are lined with higgledy piggledy wooden Japanese merchant houses, Chinese temples billow with clouds of incense and food stalls produce gutsy cooking infused with spices and singing with fresh herbs.

Cao lau is Hoi An in a bowl. Unique to the town, this noodle dish brilliantly reflects the influence of waves of traders who came here to seek their fortune.

Golden Bridge Bana Hills – the can’t miss spot in Vietnam 2019

There is a bridge in Central Vietnam, which you will think only in the legendary film as the lord of the ring… A mountain bridge supported by giant hands. That is Golden Bridge. Recently, Golden Bridge (Cau Vang) is a hot key word on google and the heat has not cooled down yet. If you have a chance to travel to Vietnam, take a look at it.

It took nearly one year to finish the construction of this bridge. The 150-metre (500 feet) long footbridge, perched 1400m above sea level, costs almost 2-billion USD investment to attract more tourists. Two giant stone hands, emerging from trees, hold up gleaming walkway to the sky – as the concept of where it is located, Ba Na Hill – the road to heaven.

So with these above attractive reasons, will you come to see the Golden Bridge and Ba Na Hill at the drop of hat?
