🌏 Vietnam Officially Consolidates from 63 to 34 Provinces and Cities
From today, 1st July, New Vietnam will have 34 provinces and cities, including 28 provinces and 6 centrally governed cities. A total of 52 provinces and cities will be consolidated into 23 new administrative units, resulting in significant changes to population and area rankings.

The largest province by area will be the new Lam D**g (merging Lam D**g, Dak Nong, and Binh Thuan) with over 24,200 km², while the smallest will be the new Hung Yen.

Some provinces, such as Ha Noi, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Hue, Cao Bang,... will not merge due to geographical, demographic, and national security considerations.

🌸 Happy Vesak Day - Lễ Phật Đản! 🌸

Vesak Day, also known as Buddha Day, is the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar. It commemorates three major events in the life of Gautama Buddha — his birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (passing away) — all believed to have occurred on the full moon of the month of Vesak (usually in May).

This day is observed by millions of Buddhists around the world with prayers, meditation, acts of kindness, and offerings at temples. It is a time to reflect on the Buddha’s teachings of compassion, mindfulness, and the path to liberation from suffering.

In Vietnam, Vesak is known as Lễ Phật Đản and is one of the most important Buddhist holidays. It is celebrated with great reverence and national participation. Pagodas are beautifully decorated, and devotees engage in rituals such as bathing the Buddha statue, offering food and flowers, and participating in processions and lantern festivals. Vietnamese bring TET to home.

Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet or Tet Nguyen Dan in Vietnamese) is the most important traditional holiday in Vietnam. It is also the longest public holiday in the country, with up to 6 - 10 consecutive work-free days.

Flowers and plants are an important part of decorating for Tết. In Northern Vietnam, branches of peach blossoms are very traditional decorations, representing wealth, luck, and happiness while in Southern, a mesmerizing yellow shade from apricot blossoms will bring in the fortune we wish for. Often they will be in a large vase and decorated with red envelopes and emerald jades. Other flowers will also decorate people’s homes. Orchids are a popular choice as they look very elegant and represent good luck.

In this spirit, the VM Travel team wishes you a prosperous, successful, and healthy New Year of the Snake in 2025!
