In the mountainous reaches of northern Vietnam, a number of Hmong villages are keeping the tradition of h**p weaving alive.

The material has long been produced for everyday clothing such as skirts and jackets, for household objects such as blankets, and in for ceremonial attire. It is a key component of funeral rituals, where the deceased is dressed in a hat, clothes and shoes made of h**p cloth. Children even demonstrate respect for their elders by preparing such garments for them long before they die.

In the villages of the remote, mountainous provinces of Lao Cai Province, h**p seeds are planted in March, and by May the two-metre-tall plants are ready for harvesting.

The laborious production process sees the h**p bark stripped and joined. It is then twisted into yarn, wound into four-metre lengths known as skeins, then pounded and softened by a foot mill, before being woven on looms.

The villages in Lai Cai Province only produce h**p for their own use. The h**p then goes through the batik process, a traditional Hmong design method where beeswax is applied to the material and dyed with a natural indigo dye. After the wax is removed, a pattern has been created where it has prevented the dye from permeating the cloth.

Generations of knowledge are suffused into each of these swathes of fabric, with the Hmong thought to be among the first to recognise h**p’s versatility and durability. To this day, the group’s textiles are imbued with the spirituality that underpins their identit

🌾🌾🌾Muong Hoa Valley belongs to Lao Chai Ta Van commune, about 12km southeast of Sapa town. From Sapa town, passing a mountain pass, you will reach Muong Hoa valley. The special thing about this valley is that there are people who introduce the number of people living here when you come and visit here you can learn a lot of their culture and their daily working life, and the plots Terraced fields of ethnic minorities. Start at 7:30 am spend three hours joining the local tribal peoples including flower H'mong. Black Zao, phu la and tay for the market activities and festive atmosphere .all peoples in their bes traditional costume gather every sunday for shoping . But socializing is of great importance . The cattle and clothing sections are the most interesting until 11:00 and then come the food section where peoples meet talk enjoy food and especially drink a kind of locally made corn-wine . And then return the town for lunch . In ther afternoon, spend time visisting another village (ban pho village) that's old village more than 100 years old .
