We came to Cúc Phương for reptiles and amphibians…

But the forest had other plans. 🌿

During our recent herping trip, alongside frogs, snakes and other nocturnal creatures, we unexpectedly crossed paths with some incredible daytime wildlife — including a Bar-bellied Pitta and a Black-backed dwarf kingfisher.

That’s one of the things we love most about wildlife watching in Cúc Phương:
You never really know what’s waiting around the next corner.

At first glance, it looks just like another vine.

But take a closer look...

This is a Chinese Green Tree Viper (Trimeresurus stejnegeri), a beautiful arboreal species, perfectly adapted to life among the leaves. Its slender green body provides remarkable camouflage, making it one of the most rewarding snakes to discover during a night herping walk in northern Vietnam forest.

Every night in the forest is different, and that's what makes herping so special.

There are moments in the forest that stay with you long after the trip ends.

During our recent journey through the limestone mountains, we were lucky enough to spend time with a troop of Delacour's langur — including several bright orange infants quietly moving alongside the adults through the cliffs and trees. Seeing new life among one of the rarest primates on Earth felt incredibly special, and honestly, deeply hopeful.

It’s easy to forget how fragile these moments really are. These langurs exist only in a small part of Vietnam, surviving in isolated limestone forests that continue to face pressure from human activities. Every healthy troop, every newborn, every peaceful morning in the wild is something worth protecting.

We share these images not only because they are beautiful, but because we hope more people can fall in love with nature the same way we do. Sometimes conservation begins with something simple — seeing, appreciating, and caring enough to protect what still remains.

A quiet moment with one of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful amphibians. During a recent night walk, we were lucky enough to find a beautiful Green flying tree frog quietly resting among the leaves above the trail. With its vivid green color, large golden eyes, and the incredible ability to glide between trees, this species feels almost unreal when seen in the wild.
