After we pulled out the ghost gear the other day, we decided to recycle as much as possible. The floats we have turned into key chains, so if your keys dropped in the water, they will sink a little slower. ๐Ÿ˜€

What is Ghost Gear? Well, it is equipment left over from fishing. Something that gets tangled in the ocean currents or on or rocks and continues to strangle and entangle marine life. It could drown a turtle or a dolphin or any air breathing sea creature, or it could just keep killing fish as its intended purpose.

Captain Rosen discovered this net one day not long ago, and so we went and removed it today. Thinking it was only small. But once we got on the scene and swam the length of it, we realised how bad it was.

We dove on it and cut it off the reef, just breath holding and scissors โœ‚๏ธ pulled it up metre by metre and managed to swim it back to the boat.

Thankfully, nothing was tangled in the net, but had it been left there, it may be a different story.

Vanuatu Watersports Port Vila does its best to teach and educate people about the marine environment, and we are proud to have this opportunity to do so for so many guests and locals. We are super stoked to have found and removed this ghost gear.
