You've probably seen the new AI assistant that wants to help you plan travel. Now, I'm not about to hate on AI-it has it's place. My husband works with AI systems and implementing AI systems and it can be a tremendous tool. But a tool is a tool. A tool that can make cute graphics with a fake travel agency name, make a full itinerary, and provide destination details (which aren't always accurate BTW). While it seems really convienient that AI can spit out a full itinerary to anywhere you want to go in a matter of seconds, you're missing a huge part of the travel process-the human part.💁♀️
Problems happen; flights delay, baggage gets lost, during travel medical emergencies arise, passports get lost in another country-I could go on. 🥴
When those things happen, AI isn't going to come to your rescue. AI isn't going to spend hours on the phone in your place, fixing whatever needs fixing. AI isn't going to have sympathy, empathy, or any other emotion tied to what you are feeling in the moment because your bucket list trip to [insert DREAM destination here] that you have been saving 10 years to take, has a problem.
But you know who will? Me. I have answered the phone at 3AM to navigate a during travel issue. I have spent time speaking to directly to resort contacts to resolve a problem. I've helped people get home quickly and file travel insurance claims and genuienly care about the outcome of their experience. 🥰
AI won't do that. AI can't do that.
So whenever you're tempted to plan your next trip using a search engine, please pause a moment and consider; Who will have my back when I need it most, far away from home, at a moments notice?
