I’ve been thinking about what makes a trip actually stick.

And honestly? I think it’s the people.

Like Pauline and Brad—just minutes before we hit the beach in Varkala. That kind of quiet excitement you don’t even have to say out loud. It’s just... there on your face.

Or Toni, Belinda, and Debbie on the Alleppey boat house—sipping chai, completely locked into a conversation that probably started light and ended up somewhere deep (as they always do with the right company).

Then there was Norma. In that gorgeous blue kurti. She wore it like she’d been rocking Indian tradition her whole life. It suited her.
She felt like part of this place.

And Warren...
Warren was just being Warren.
Running around the beach like a kid, laughing at his own jokes, fully in the moment.
Honestly, we all needed a little Warren that day.

I don’t know.
There’s something about watching people be happy in a place that makes you love that place even more.

Fresh, locally grown, home roasted and hand ground coffee. Wow, yummo!!

Juan is a proud Guatemalan coffee farmer and his wife Christina teaches cooking. They work in a co-op with a not for profit organisation De la Gente that ensures the farmers get an above average wage for their hard work, and provides tourism job opportunities 🙌.

A great day out and a fantastic brew!

Let’s cook pepián!
A traditional Guatemalan dish loaded with flavours from tomatoes, coriander, capsicums and onions. Then a weird and wonderful dessert, mole, with all the same ingredients plus sugar and cacao. Yum!!

Our first clean up in Guatemala with and 🚮.
Some of the local high schoolers joined us and we cleaned up one of the beaches on Lake Atitlan. There was SO many cigarette butts!! The kids had no idea that they don’t break down instantly and so we had a little chit chat afterwards of the effects of pollution in our environment.
