To understand the message of whales, you have to go beneath the surface and meet them there. That’s where it happens — in the exchange of notes, of music, of sound. In that shared space, something opens. That’s where they truly reveal what lives inside their song.

Playing music to whales from a boat misses the point. There is no real contact, no physical presence, no shared field.

Trying to decode their language from above — lowering a hydrophone, analyzing signals on a screen, even assisted by artificial intelligence — is like attempting to communicate with your eyes and your heart wide shuts.

Pierre Lavagne de Castellan designed the Shelltone as an instrument meant to be played underwater — where the encounter actually exists.

After two years of research between Stanford University and the École Centrale de Nantes acoustic laboratory, the Shelltone emerged.

With it, he entered the first true underwater musical interactions between a human and a humpback whale — opening a path toward a new form of interspecies communication.

Not mediated. Not interpreted. Experienced.

The only one that holds — eye to eye.

Because it is through the eyes that the light of the soul travels.

🐋 Free encounter with a family of s***m whales..

That day, during a responsible whale watching excursion, a deeply moving moment unfolded: a family of s***m whales came to meet us.

On board, everything was clear from the very beginning: engines off, strict respect of safe distances, and full adherence to our responsible observation charter and the AGOA Sanctuary protocol.

And it was precisely within this calm setting—free from intrusion or pursuit, that the cetaceans chose… to approach us. A spontaneous, free encounter, entirely on their own terms🌈🐳

Here, we don’t “look for” animals.
We give them space, time… and choice.

🌊 Observing cetaceans is, above all, about understanding one essential rule: « Respect creates the most meaningful encounters. »

🐋 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀: 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 : Late April in Guadeloupe usually marks the end of the season…👉 but this year, humpback whales are sticking around a little longer.

And most importantly: we’re still seeing them regularly at sea! Blows, flukes, songs… some truly beautiful encounters during our responsible outings these past few days 🌊

📅 Tours are still running now is definitely the time to enjoy it! Who’s coming on board with us?

🎧🐋 The song of humpback whales in Guadeloupe

Every year, between January and Mid-May, the waters of Guadeloupe become the stage for a powerful yet invisible spectacle…

Beneath the surface, humpback whales sing.
Long, complex sounds that can travel for miles 🌊

These songs serve an essential purpose:
courtship, communication, rivalry… and mystery.

✨ And it’s only the males who sing, hoping to attract a female or compete with other males.

A rare, fragile and unforgettable moment to witness, always with full respect for these ocean giants 🌿
