Away from the hustle and bustle of the markets in Chau Doc sits Chua Long Son, built along the slopes of Sam Mountain aka the highest peak in the Mekong Delta. The temple itself offers a peaceful retreat and glimpse into Vietnam's spiritual heritage. Then the views from the top of the mountain stretch across endless rice paddies and the winding Mekong Delta all the way into Cambodia.

The hand painted tiles and murals at Kiem An Clung Pagoda were so cool! Done with traditional Chinese ink and watercolors, the stories depicted really came to life.

When the road ends and it's time to cram onto the local ferry to cross the river to continue down the road ... You know it's going to be a legit trip when the captain sits in a hammock and mostly operates with his feet. Honestly he drove way better than most of the people on the road at home!

One of my favorite excursions on our Aqua Mekong journey was a bike tour! And no I'm not a cyclist nor do I often bike at home but if you can ride a bike you can enjoy their bike tours I promise. It was such a nice change of pace vs the regular tours and everyone kept a leisurely pace that we all enjoyed. The best part is you make stops along the way to see temples and special local performances where Aqua goes the extra mile greeting you with cold towels, refreshing cocktails and snacks!

In Tan Phong only the local Sampan boats are allowed to be used on the river to get to shore. Via Sampan off we went on a tour to a local fruit garden to sample the fresh local fruits and tea. This was supposed to be followed by a bike /kayak tour but it started to pour while we were at the fruit garden and the amazing expedition staff gave us the option to hang out/go back to the ship or try kayaking in the rain. We all decided we didn't mind getting wet/still wanted to kayak and I'm pretty sure the expedition staff thought we were crazy but they got us all set up for the adventure and again off we went for what was a memorable paddle in the rain! The staff met us with big fluffy warm towels on tht Sampan and a specialty drink greeted us back onboard Aqua Mekong for our hard work.

Chef Davet took us on an insightful tour of the wet market to explore and sample some of the food... This is where the previously mentioned Tarantulas and Crickets came from and all the ingredients for our upcoming cooking class. There were what seemed like endless options of all types of food to buy including some I've never seen before. Vietnamese food is so delicious and fresh and it amazed me how people go the market every day to buy fresh food just for that day's meals. Back at home it's a chore going to the grocery store once a week, I can't imagine having to go every day 😂
For the tiny baby turtles in one of the above photos, those are bought at that wet market and released back into the water for good luck, they are not being eaten don't worry!

Chef Davet cooked us up a local delicacy of tarantulas and crickets to eat after we saw them during our earlier wet market tour. All of us tried them and although it wont be on the menu at home for me anytime soon it was such a fun experience!

My journey through Vietnam & Cambodia wouldn't be complete without a river cruise down the Mekong and knows how to do it right! The only 5 star river cruise on Mekong and I have to say I was very sad to leave the ship after only 3 short nights! Tip: spend at least 4 nights on the ship, 3 is too short and if you have time for the full 7 nights, even better! The service onboard was incredible, the food delicious and my favorite part was the amazing staff! The staff was so kind and happy, they knew everyone by name immediately and there was no request that wasn't met. The ship itself is a barefoot luxury style vibe where you can (they encourage you) to walk around barefoot onboard just like the staff does. There are numerous places to spread out and enjoy all the ship's amenities. From a private screening room with movies to the spa, gym, pool, game room, bars or one of the multiple lounge/living room areas this is a ship you'll want to spend some extra time on. Not to mention the cabins have the most comfortable beds/pillows I have EVER slept on in my life and I've been pretty lucky to stay in a lot of really nice hotel and sail on plenty of luxury ships.

Ta Prohm aka the temple featured in that movie Lara Croft: Tomber Raider . This temple is considered to be Angkor’s
most beautiful structure and is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent
roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten
city’ feeling. This was one of my favorite temples to visit in Siem Reap!
