Afternoon Wild Wednesday spotlight on the incredible river ecosystem at Garner State Park! 🐟🌿

Did you know the Frio River at Garner is one of the most important habitats for the Guadalupe Bass, the official state fish of Texas? This species is almost exclusively found in the spring-fed rivers of the Hill Country and the clean cold water of the Frio is one of its key homes.

The river is also lined with ancient cypress trees, supported by dozens of aquatic species, and comes alive after dark with the sound of canyon tree frogs, a uniquely Hill Country experience you will never forget.

The Frio River is so much more than a swimming hole. It is an entire living ecosystem worth exploring. 📖🤠

Happy Wild Wednesday from Wander Stamped! This morning we are spotlighting the incredible wildlife waiting for you at Garner State Park. 🦌🌿

White-tailed deer are one of the great joys of a Garner visit. They roam freely throughout the park and are especially active at dawn and dusk near the Frio River and open meadows. Wild turkeys are also regulars in the park. But one of the most special wildlife encounters you can have at Garner involves one of the most endangered birds in the country.

The Golden-cheeked Warbler nests exclusively in the mixed Ashe juniper and oak woodlands of Central Texas and nowhere else in the world. Active in the area from March through July before wintering in Mexico and Central America, this remarkable little bird builds its nest from long strips of cedar bark woven together with spiderwebs and lays three to four eggs each season. Loss of nesting habitat has significantly reduced their populations making every sighting something truly worth celebrating.

Garner sits right in the heart of Golden-cheeked Warbler territory and it is one of the many reasons the Wander Stamped community holds this stamp so close. When you visit Garner you are not just collecting a page in your book. You are stepping into one of the most ecologically important corners of Texas. Bring your binoculars, move quietly through the juniper and oak woodlands, and keep your eyes open. 📖🌿

Afternoon Trails & Tips for all the Frio River fans out there! 💧🌿

The Frio River at Garner State Park is one of the most beloved swimming holes in all of Texas and a few tips will make your visit even better. Get there early to secure a good spot along the banks since weekends fill up fast. Pack water shoes for the rocky riverbed. Take advantage of the paddleboat rentals for a fun way to see the park from the water. And always check current river conditions before your visit.
The Frio River is the kind of place that makes you want to stay all day. We highly recommend it. 🤠📖

About a year ago I made a book because I couldn’t find one that fit Texas State Parks. It turned into a dream I didn’t know I had. I love Wander Stamped and everything it’s growing to be. ❤️
