Here are a few from a recent Italy plan:
📍 Rome: There's one spot for the best Colosseum photo, and it's not on the crowded street. Go at opening, before the tour buses arrive.
📍 Positano: Hire a private driver. The Amalfi Coast road is not where you want to learn to drive in Italy.
📍 Sorrento: The ferry to Capri leaves from the marina right below this view.
🍝 Dinner in Positano: Chic Mama Positano. Trust me.

It's about to be gray in Chicago until April.

Meanwhile, it's summer in Patagonia. Granite peaks, glacier-blue lakes, and lodges where the window is the main event.

Arriving in Stockholm by sea.

We took the overnight ferry and woke up to this: an early-morning glide through the archipelago, past red cottages, pine-covered islands and little private docks, all the way into the city. It's one of my favorite ways to arrive anywhere.

Scandinavia rewards a slower pace, and summer is the season. I'd love to help you plan yours.

Inside a glacier, this winter.

From roughly November to March, natural ice caves form inside Iceland's glaciers, glowing blue with ice that's centuries old. You can only visit with certified glacier guides, and the conditions change every season, so it's the kind of thing that's worth planning carefully.

Pair it with geothermal lagoons, cozy countryside stays and evenings watching for the Northern Lights, and you have the trip of a lifetime.

Tuscany has a way of slowing you down.

This was the view from Agriturismo Diacceroni the farm stay in the hills near Volterra where we stayed with our kids.

It's the part of our Italy trip everyone still talks about: truffle hunting in the woods, horseback rides, olive groves, and long dinners nobody wanted to end.

I've since planned Tuscany for two client families, and the same thing happens every time: the pace changes, and the trip becomes about being together.

My clients spent an afternoon in Sorrento learning to make gnocchi and meatballs from scratch with Chef Tony at QB quantobasta. The thumbs-up says the meatballs passed inspection.

I put the class on their itinerary, and they told me it ended up being a highlight of Sorrento and one of their favorite days of the trip.

Senior year goes fast. I do the homework, you take the trip.

Before they leave for college, give them a trip they'll talk about for the rest of their lives. Kyoto's thousands of orange gates, Tokyo's energy, bullet trains, temples and the best food of their lives.

Japan is easier with someone who's done the homework: rail passes, traditional inns, the right neighborhoods, and a pace that works for your family.
