Breathless Nomad wants you to experience destinations, not just visit them.

This time, that took us to Cape Point with Neil (the owner) from

Cape Point was buzzing. International visitors everywhere, with some of the big tour operators arriving with busloads of guests.

And we’re definitely not knocking it — Breathless Nomad aims to bring that many international travellers into South Africa one day as well 😎

But Neil and I looked at the buses, looked at our bikes and asked:

Would you rather experience Cape Point from a bus… or from a bike?

Because there’s a difference between seeing a destination and experiencing it.

On an e-bike, you’re not looking at Cape Point through a window. You’re in it.

You feel the wind, smell the ocean and notice the landscape changing around you. And when those Cape Point hills remind you that you’re not quite as fit as you thought… that electric motor comes in handy!

But it also got us thinking.

When we travel, we often ask, “Where should I go?”

But maybe we should also ask, “How do I want to experience it?”

That’s what we’re exploring at Breathless Nomad.

We’re are out here, meeting operators , trying activities and discovering great accommodation, food, people and places — then looking at how these experiences can be connected.

Because an e-bike ride doesn’t have to be the whole day. It could be one part of an incredible Cape Peninsula experience.

That’s where we believe BN adds value — not simply giving you another list of things to do, but helping you connect the dots.

Maybe that’s what Chase the Unknown really means.

It doesn’t always mean finding somewhere nobody has been.

Sometimes it’s discovering a completely different way to experience somewhere you thought you already knew.

So, the Breathless Nomad question:

INSIDE ADVENTURE TOURISM WITH BREATHLESS NOMAD

Where our story started...

Breathless Nomad was founded in 2018 by Jodray Arendse, with a simple idea: create exciting outdoor experiences and build a business around adventure.

We certainly didn't start with everything figured out. We started small, Jodray conducted guided nature based educational tours with Bumper Ball activities at R50 per person, we then met some amazing investors, shared our grand vision and over time found our way into the Atlantis Dunes on a permanent basis- and that landscape changed the direction of the business.

One activity became another. We added sandboarding, quad biking and 4x4 experiences. We invested in equipment, built a team and developed the operational experience that comes from actually working with guests, groups and tourism partners on the ground.

And we're still learning.

We have successfully organized and delivered experiences and tours for international travelers, corporate groups, tour operators and DMCs. We've learned how to manage the less visible parts of adventure tourism too (logistics, guides, transport, timing, permits, safety, suppliers, group requirements and all the moving parts that need to come together to deliver a great experience).

We're now increasingly looking beyond individual activities and exploring how adventure can become a way of discovering an entire destination — particularly the Cape West Coast. Through our West Coast Untamed experiences, we're building relationships with local operators, visiting destinations, testing experiences and finding ways to connect places such as the Atlantis Dunes, Darling, Yzerfontein and the wider West Coast into journeys that are authentic, adventurous and professionally delivered.

We know what we're good at.

But one thing this industry continues to teach us is that there is always more to learn. New destinations. New markets. New partnerships. Different travelers. Different expectations.

That's one of the reasons we're starting Inside Adventure Tourism with Breathless Nomad. We'll share some of what we're learning from actually working in the industry — the successes, challenges, operations, partnerships, destinations and lessons that come with trying to build an adventure tourism company in South Africa.

We're not writing this series because we have all the answers.

We're writing it because we're in the middle of the journey. Experienced enough to know what works. Curious enough to keep learning.

44 legends, good vibes, big smiles, 10 pins & a few strikes! 🎳

We recently swapped adventure for bowling shoes and spent an awesome day with 44 incredible young adults from the Western Cape Down Syndrome Association. ❤️

A little tenpin bowling, a lekker lunch, plenty of laughs and some seriously competitive moments made for a day to remember!

A massive shoutout to Clarksons Shipbrokers for partnering with Breathless Nomad and helping us make this special day happen. 🙏

Adventure comes in many forms — but sometimes it’s simply about getting together, having fun and creating memories. ❤️
