Protecting the Wild.

The recent uproar in Tanzania has sent shockwaves through the safari world — footage of tourists and guides stepping out of vehicles during the Great Migration, blocking wildebeest from crossing safely, is not only disheartening but dangerous.

At African Footprints Travel, we believe in treading lightly and respectfully. Africa’s wildlife doesn’t belong to us — we are guests in their home.

Getting out of vehicles in sensitive wildlife areas is not only against the rules, it disrupts ancient migratory paths, causes panic, and can have devastating ripple effects on the ecosystem.

The safari industry was never meant to be a stage for personal celebrity or social media stardom. When we enter the wilderness, we are stepping into a world that is not ours — a world governed by instinct, rhythm, and deep ecological balance. Our role is to observe without intrusion, to witness without imprinting, and to leave behind nothing but footprints.

Regrettably, we are seeing a growing trend where egos eclipse ethics. Cooler boxes brimming with alcohol brought into wild dog dens in Mana Pools, guides crossing ethical lines for that “perfect shot,” and vehicles speeding through national parks with little regard for the lives they endanger.

Yes, the wild is unpredictable, and whether on foot or in a vehicle, the most profound moments often come when we simply sit still and allow an animal to pass — undisturbed, unprovoked. These are the moments when nature, unbothered by our presence, reveals her magic- often up close and personal beyond our wildest imagination.

To deliberately breach the invisible boundary between observer and observed is not only reckless, but harmful.

We work only with lodges who hold these ethics as sacred.

A true safari is about reverance not conquest. Let’s continue to explore Africa with care, humility, and deep respect for the natural world and let nature be the hero of your story.

Who we are.

Our African Footprints are bespoke safari designers based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Founded by the husband and wife team of Brett and Dominique Roux, Our African Footprints was born from a life long passion for Africas wilderness eden's. Having travelled through Africa from a young age, conservation, tracking and photography have always been a great love of Bretts. After 25 years of fine tuning his bush and photographic skills Brett’s dream is to share his deep connection with nature with the rest of the world. Him and Dominique instantly connected over Africa and its wild places when the met in 2014 and subsequently got engaged and married in the magical Phinda Sand Forest. They are a modern day bush couple that added to their family in 2017 with the birth of their son Roan, who is often taken along on their many bush adventures. Together they bring the experience gained from working in the corporate world and then the hospitality sector to their experiences. Both Brett and Domi are creatives at heart and its their unique synergy, experience and imagination that enables them to create life changing travel into Africa.
