✈ SCAM ALERT: Fake Flight Deals on Social Media 🚨
We’ve been made aware of a rise in bogus travel and flight advertisements on Facebook, especially using the names of major airlines, to lure unsuspecting customers.
🔍 Here’s how the scam works:
• Eye-catching ads promise unbelievable discounts.
• Victims are asked to complete a short quiz and enter their WhatsApp number.
• A scammer calls via WhatsApp, asking for a code that gives them remote access to your phone.
• These calls are often chaotic, designed to create panic and confusion.
🛡 How you and your clients can stay safe:
✔ If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
✔ Never share WhatsApp verification codes—not even with someone claiming to be from an airline.
✔ Confirm suspicious offers with your trusted travel advisor.
✔ Always verify promotions on official airline websites.
💬 As your travel professionals, we’re here to help you travel smarter and safer.
Let’s protect ourselves and our community. If you or your clients suspect a scam, report it to the South African Cybercrime Division or your local police station.
