Today, as Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, we wanted to pause and honour the extraordinary legacy of a man whose words, storytelling, and unwavering passion for the natural world have inspired generations across the globe.

These words resonate deeply with everything we believe in at Africa Hidden Gems and is at the heart of everything our portfolio of camps, lodges and estates embody.

Across Africa’s wild spaces, remote landscapes, and remarkable hidden places, we are constantly reminded that nature has the power to move us, humble us, connect us, and change us. It is the heartbeat behind every meaningful safari, every conservation story, every community connection, and every unforgettable moment shared under African skies.

We could not say it better than Sir David himself. Thank you for reminding the world why protecting and celebrating the natural world matters so profoundly.

Come for the gorillas…but be blown away by the landscape… 💚

In and around the Volcanoes National Park, the magic doesn’t begin and end with trekking. At , just minutes from the park headquarters, you’re not separate from the landscape — you’re part of it and it’s another reason to stay longer. To take in the incredible beauty of the Kinigi area (and maybe even attempt one of the hikes) and explore another side of what this area offers for nature lovers!

Because while the gorillas may bring you here…
it’s the full beauty of this extraordinary corner of Rwanda that will remain with you, (if you allow yourself more time to fully appreciate and immerse in the many layers of adventure and vistas of the Virunga mountains and it’s lush forested landscapes.) 💫

With another birthday around the corner, I find myself reflecting—as we all do—on getting a little older, and hopefully a little wiser.

But what I’ve come to realise is that while age may bring wisdom… travel more than anything has given me a better understanding. Understanding of people, of cultures, of perspectives far beyond my own.
And perhaps most importantly, a deeper appreciation for life itself.

Some of the greatest “hidden gems” I’ve discovered haven’t just been places, they’ve been people, conversations, and unexpected experiences along the way.

Travel in Africa has a way of reminding you to slow down, to be present, and to be grateful. In a world that often feels rushed and fragile, that feels more important than ever. So if there’s one piece of birthday advice I can give this year…
take the trip.
Seek out the hidden gems.
Let travel change the way you see the world

February was full diaries, full hearts, full rooms!

How lucky was I to have three of my clients in Cape Town at the same time — time to connect and dream a little bigger for what’s ahead.

So special to spend time with Mark ‘Butch’ from Imvelo, Greg from Sambora Kinigi in Rwanda, and Rob and Charlotte from Golden Africa Safaris in Botswana. Different corners of Africa, different stories — but the same shared passion for extraordinary places and meaningful travel.

And then meeting with so many of our Cape Town partners at the Best of Botswana Day, hosting at the brand new Alexander Estate and then spending time around Cape Town with Butch, a true Hwange lifer, sharing the magic of Zimbabwe’s wild spaces.

There’s something incredibly energising about sitting across the table, digging deeper into these hidden gems, talking through conservation impact, community partnerships, logistics, 2026 plans — and watching the ideas spark!

So grateful for the humans behind these brands, and for the trade partners who trust us with their guests. The conversations we’ve had this month are already shaping a very memorable year ahead! 💫🙏🏻

But hold onto those reigns - March is already in full swing and it’s going stratospheric!!
