Cedarpeak Wilderness Explorer:
Fully-catered, 4-day, 3-night, guided slackpacking trail.
In the foothills of the Groot Winterhoek mountains, just south of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cedarpeak private nature reserve is a pristine wilderness escape for connoisseurs. The heart of the Cape
Floral Kingdom, it is known for its extraordinary diversity. This is big sky country, a diverse landscape of water features, bizarrely weathered rock formations and rock paintings. Let your imagination roam free in the natural sculpture garden and you’ll be among camels and elephants, dragons and prehistoric creatures.
Numerous streams and rivers run through the property, so it’s surprisingly lush, with waterfalls, rock pools, wetlands and a big dam alive with water birds. Sugarbirds and sunbirds flit around in the fynbos, Verreaux’s and fish eagles soar overhead and flocks of seasonal swallows are a treat while the absence of light
pollution ensures star-studded skies.
DATES: 30 April to 3 May 2026
LOGISTICS: Cedarpeak is a two and a half hour drive from Cape Town.
ACCOMMODATION As is appropriate for a place where you’ll be marvelling at the grandeur of nature, the five, secluded cottages are simple, yet comfortable with chic décor, free standing baths and beautiful views.
DIFFICULTY Some 50 kilometres of marked paths - for the exclusive use of Cedarpeak guests - offer a variety of different walks from gentle strolls to more challenging hikes. Routes can be geared to hikers’ fitness and interests but there are three main circuits (between 6.5km and 12km) each of which will take 4-6 hours. The abundance of water means that this is a great year-round destination. On hot days we prefer to offer two shorter hikes (2-3 hours), one in the early morning, the other in the late afternoon. And if you prefer to take time off from hiking you can just sit out enjoying this tranquil wilderness.
PRICE: R8,900pp sharing for 4 days, 3 nights. Based on group of 6 hikers. This is an exclusive, guided trail that accommodates a maximum of 12 hikers. All meals and soft drinks as well as an on-site wine tasting and a botanical ‘gelli printing’ course are included.
