On 1 September, Philippe Angellier is setting off from Brussels on one very long ride to Cape Town. 🚴‍♂️🌍

That’s 14,000 km, 16 countries and two continents, all to raise funds for Masicorp and Songezo Jim Cycling Academy, two organisations that hold a very special place in the AWOL Tours story.

We’ll be keeping an eye on Philippe’s journey as he makes his way toward us, one kilometre at a time.

14,000 km. Brussels to Cape Town. And a cause very close to home. This is a journey we’ll be following closely at AWOL Tours.

On 1 September, Philippe Angellier will set off from Brussels on an incredible solo cycling journey to Cape Town, covering a minimum of 14,000 km across 16 countries and two continents.

His goal? To raise €14,000 ( €1 for every kilometre cycled) for two organisations making a lasting difference in the Masiphumelele community: Masicorp and the Songezo Cycling Academy. And for us at AWOL, these organisations are much more than names on a fundraising page.

Our connection with Masiphumelele goes back to 2002, when AWOL began operating its Bicycle Township Tours in the community. Over the years, this has grown into a long-standing partnership with Masicorp and Songezo. Our guests also contribute directly to the community through our tours, with 10% of tour proceeds going towards Masicorp’s education programmes. AWOL also supports Songezo Cycling Academy, which gives young people from Masiphumelele the opportunity to participate in cycling while developing skills, confidence and opportunities for the future.

So Philippe’s journey feels particularly meaningful to us.

From Brussels, through 16 countries and across two continents, every kilometre will bring him closer to Cape Town and help raise funds for organisations doing important work in a community that has been part of the AWOL story for more than 20 years. 🌍🚴‍♂️

We’ll be following his journey and cheering him on all the way!
