Sundowners, sailing stories & wonderful friendships at the Royal Cape Yacht Club! ⚓️🍷

Wow! It’s been years since I last visited this beautiful place, and what a delight to be back! Sitting on the porch on a gorgeous evening, sipping sundowners with my husband , was such a treat.

Even more special was catching up with our lovely friends Bill & Lyla and their touring group from the USA. Good company, beautiful views, sailing stories and that unmistakable Cape Town magic! ❤️

Now, I must confess that my own yachting experience is rather limited… but I’m fortunate to have a husband with some wonderful sailing stories to tell! 😄

Kev sailed with the legendary Bertie Reed aboard a yacht called Pendulum, and his own yacht, Spray, certainly kept him busy out at sea. He was also a member of both False Bay Yacht Club and Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club, so there’s a fair bit of salt water and sailing history in this household! ⛵️

And what a privilege to spend time at the magnificent Royal Cape Yacht Club, celebrating a remarkable maritime heritage spanning 120 years.

Founded in 1905, the Club has been at the heart of Cape Town’s sailing spirit for generations —
From legendary ocean races like the Cape to Rio and Cape to St Helena, to nurturing young sailors and welcoming international competitors and visitors, the Club has played a wonderful role in South Africa’s maritime story.

There is something quite special about places like this — where the ocean holds countless stories, every sailor has an adventure to share, and friendships bring people together across continents. Royal Cape Yacht Club

What a day of fun, laughter and making memories!
There is something incredibly special about spending time with ladies in their late 70s. They are such a tonic and an inspiration to me! Their stories, their bravery, their fearless determination to keep exploring, laughing and LIVING LIFE to the fullest. 👯‍♀️💓
They remind me that adventure has no age limit, laughter is good for the soul, and the best memories are often made when you least expect them.
