Sincere gratitude doesn't come close to how we feel towards the men and women who have been fighting the fires around the Cape Peninsula over the last four days.

Fire is common in this region at this time of year and in fact, is an essential stage in the life cycle of many species of the fynbos for which the Western Cape is known. It is therefore bitter sweet to know that whilst the floral kingdom will thrive from such devastation, many properties have been burned down, tortoises and other wildlife will have perished or have been displaced and farms and vineyards are currently all at risk.

These photos capture the events thus far and our thoughts are with those still fighting; those who have been evacuated without any idea of what they will be returning to; and with every member of society who has contributed to helping those in need.
