You Came to Cape Town… But You Still Want a Safari?

Think a South African safari means adding Johannesburg, Kruger or another destination to your itinerary?

Think again. 😉

If your Cape Town stay is short, you don't have to choose between Table Mountain and the Big Five.

No extra flight.
No complicated itinerary.
Just Cape Town → Safari → Cape Town.

So if you're heading into Africa and don't have time to add Johannesburg or Kruger to your trip, let Cape Town be your gateway to the wild.

Winter has a flavour... and it's called Glühwein. 🍷

Some experiences stay with you long after you've left, and for me, Delheim was one of them.

Nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg, this family-owned Stellenbosch estate has been welcoming visitors for generations with award-winning wines, breathtaking mountain views and genuine Cape hospitality.

We visited on a cold, rainy winter's day, and nothing compared to a steaming mug of their famous Glühwein—a gently spiced mulled wine that warmed me from the inside out. It was the perfect ending to a memorable tasting experience.

Beyond its exceptional wines, Delheim also offers delicious breakfasts and lunches, scenic hiking trails, and its unique Wine & Fynbos Cupcake Pairing, celebrating the flavours of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Whether you're visiting on a crisp winter's day or beneath a summer sky, it's easy to see why Delheim's motto is "Worth the Journey." ❤️

One of the many highlights of our recent Cape Winelands experience was visiting the remarkable:
📍 Rickety Bridge Wine Estate

Nestled at the foot of the Franschhoek Mountains, Rickety Bridge is one of the valley's oldest wine estates, with a history dating back to 1797. Today it blends historic Cape Dutch charm with contemporary winemaking, producing award-winning wines in one of South Africa's most beautiful settings.

Lunch here was just as memorable as the wines.

🍔 I enjoyed the Wagyu Burger – perfectly cooked, rich in flavour and paired beautifully with a relaxed afternoon overlooking the vineyards.

🐟 Cassiem chose the Kingklip, fresh and delicately prepared, showcasing why Rickety Bridge has become as popular for its restaurant as it is for its wines.

Of course, no visit would be complete without sampling a selection of their wines while soaking in the spectacular mountain views.

Little History of Franschhoek

Franschhoek, meaning "French Corner," traces its roots back to 1688, when French Huguenot refugees settled in the valley after fleeing religious persecution in Europe.

They brought with them centuries of experience in viticulture and winemaking, laying the foundations for what has become one of the world's most respected wine regions.

Today, Franschhoek is celebrated not only for its award-winning wines but also for its fine dining, art galleries, boutique shops and breathtaking mountain scenery, making it one of the Western Cape's must-visit destinations.

Whether you're looking for a leisurely wine tasting, gourmet dining, boutique estates or a fully customised Cape Winelands experience, The Daytripper offers private chauffeur-driven experiences designed around your interests.

Sit back, relax and let us take care of the journey while you enjoy everything the Cape Winelands has to offer.

🍷 La Motte Wine Estate 🍷
– A Taste Worth Remembering -

Some wine tastings stay with you long after the last sip... and La Motte Wine Estate in the heart of Franschhoek certainly did just that.

One of the highlights of our visit was tasting their beautifully balanced Merlot & Cabernet Franc. Rich, smooth and full of character, it was perfectly paired with traditional South African biltong and a delicious, flavour-packed charcuterie board. It was one of those combinations where every bite and every sip complemented the next.

Beyond the exceptional wines, La Motte offers breathtaking mountain views, warm hospitality and an atmosphere that invites you to slow down and savour every moment.
Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable day out in the Cape Winelands, this estate deserves a place on your list.

At The Daytripper, we love sharing experiences that showcase the very best of the Western Cape—one destination, one story and one unforgettable glass at a time.

On Sunday we had the privilege of joining our first Wineflies experience through the Cape Winelands, all the way through the renowned wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. (French Corner)

One of the things that stood out wasn't only the beautiful vineyards or exceptional wines—it was seeing the passion behind every estate we visited. Every stop had its own story, its own character and its own reason for being there.

During the day we visited the beautiful La Motte Wine Estate, enjoyed an informative cellar tour, had a delicious lunch and wine tasting at Rickety Bridge Wine Estate, explored the boutique charm of Mitre's Edge Wine Estate, and ended the day at the award-winning Delheim Wine Estate.

At The Daytripper, experiences like these allow us to recommend destinations from personal knowledge rather than brochures.

We believe the best travel advice comes from first-hand experience—sharing not only where to go, but the stories, atmosphere and memories that make each destination truly special.

We also want to thank Wineflies for a wonderfully organized day. I can't wait to share more of the places and wines we experienced in the next few posts.
