An angulate tortoise (Chersina angulata), endemic to Southern Africa, spotted on Intaka Island recently.

Their diet includes grasses, annuals and succulent plants, making Intaka an abundant food source and the perfect habitat for this unique species.

These remarkable tortoises also play an important ecological role as natural seed dispersers. Feeding on large quantities of vegetation, their scats contain undamaged seeds, often deposited beneath bushes where they have a better chance of germination and survival. 🌾🐢

Two sneaky skinks in stealth mode... can you spot them!? 🦎

The Cape Skink (Trachylepis capensis) is a common ground-dwelling lizard that thrives at Intaka Island. These tiny reptiles are often spotted basking in sunny patches or hiding under rocks, fallen leaf litter and wetland debris. They feed on insects and other small invertebrates and blend perfectly into the island’s flora.
