Exploring Cape Town - If you love contemporary art galleries - make sure you add to your list of places to visit in Cape Town. You will find them at the V&A Waterfront located in what was the largest grain silos in the country. The 42 silos were converted in to the most incredible architectural creation in our city - and would be worth visiting for the architecture alone. The contemporary art collections both old and new give a voice to the struggles that people of colour experienced in our country. These important conversations show us how far we have come as a country. The conversations are important for us to reflect on as we build a better tomorrow for the next generation.

One of our favourite local treat is to have a toasted sandwich cooked on a wood burning fire - a braai! This is one of our most famous local chefs debating over the best ingredients for the local braai “brootjie” (braai bread). Track one of these down while traveling in South Africa. Let me tell you it is hard to find!

LOCAL IS LEKKA - means “local is delicious”. KOESISTERS are only found in Cape Town. They are seriously delicious doughnuts that contain a delicious mix of dry spices in the dough. They are deep fried. Dipped in a thin syrup and then rolled in dried coconut. They are traditionally eaten on a Sunday morning. Luckily you can now find them any day of the week - but you need to know where to find them! The easiest spot to try them that is close to town is the Bo-Kaap. As you enter the community you can find them opposite Atlas Spices in the turquoise house with a sign saying Lekka Coffee.

Ernie Els Wines is a fabulous spot to include when you explore the Stellenbosch wine region - gorgeous location on top of a mountain, beautiful architecture, a great à la carte restaurant with incredible chef’s in the kitchen, a lighter lunch menu you with the wine tasting and of course a trophy room for golfers to explore! The wine is also excellent. The estate focuses on red wine production!

Tintswalo Summer House - Glencairn!

Did you know a wonderful restaurant has opened in the old hotel in Glencairn where the Deep South Eatery used to be? The whole building has been lovingly restored back to a hotel, restaurant and bar. The concept is family sharing platters for the table & reflecting and using the local fresh produce. They source from a local veggie farm (Rocklands), fresh seafood & from artisans in their hood. They wish to celebrate seafood and cook on an open fire with a simple meditteranean style.

This is the perfect spot to book a table of 6 for a Sunday lunch as Chef Thando can simply bring platters to share for the whole table……..from whole local fish through to platters of prawns, mussels and salads. Shoooo - this type of eating and food makes me happy. Everything was perfectly cooked & packed with flavour - so delicious!

Chef Thando Jaxa originally worked for the family at Tintswalo Atlantic and has come back to run their latest restaurant. The restaurant is casual, relaxed, has lovely decor and a good view. The staff are wonderful, super friendly and knowledgeable. It was such a treat to be invited to experience the new restaurant and to see the new hotel. The restaurant is open & the hotel part opens in April 2026.

Thank you Tintswalo for the invite to experience your fabulous new restaurant. It was wonderful to see the restored hotel. The decor is fun and they worked really hard to restore the old hotel back to her former glory! Great job Camlyn Johnson!

A luxurious new destination on Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula, Tintswalo Summer House will be opening in April 2026, promising a serene escape that celebrates the stunning natural beauty of the area.

Originally established in 1904 as the iconic Glencairn Southern Right Hotel, the property was a celebrated landmark of coastal elegance and a meeting place for dignitaries and notable public figures. Over the decades, the hotel fell into disrepair and lost its former grandeur. In 2014 Tintswalo acquired the historic building, initially operating it as a restaurant only, while researching and planning the full restoration.

Overlooking sweeping views of False Bay, Tintswalo Summer House is dressed in eye-catching ‘Tintswalo pink’. Offering 12 individually styled guest suites, the vibrant and colourful interiors of the meticulously restored heritage villa were designed by Camlyn Johnson, further growing the third-generation family business as head of Tintswalo Interiors, alongside her gran Gaye Corbett, and mom, Tintswalo CEO Lisa Goosen.

ARUM RESTAURANT ON BOSCHENDAL ESTATE - I am not sure that I can find the words to express how much I loved my experience at Arum. What blew me away most was how much thought and passion has gone in to every detail. Core concept - celebrating the farms produce from veggies through to their meat - & fire cooking. Shooo they are fermenting, pickling, smoking, freeze drying, making tinctures…….etc……having lots of fun….& experimenting. The restaurant is the newest addition to the Fyn group of retaurants which are owned and managed with passion and attention to detail. This crew of talented creative professional food and wine lovers always blow me away. It is highly recommended to try out all of their restaurants! is a great choice for a wine tour. The menu is à la carte and you can combine with a walk around the historic estate, the veggie gardens and their fabulous farm shop!

Blown away by all the developments in Sea Point - such a funky fun area to stay in when visiting Cape Town. The Cole Hotel is the newest addition. Fab sea views from the windows. One minute walk to bars and restaurants and one minute from the prom!! I love their new fabulous bar at the entrance called THE SCRIPT - it will be my new sundowner spot! The restaurant on the roof boasts wonderful views - open to the public - so definitely my go to for summer!! The pizzas were fabulous!!!!
