Wilderness Mara, the newest addition to the Wilderness collection in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, opened two weeks ago following a complete rebuild of the former Little Governors’ Camp, carefully preserving its iconic character while introducing a lighter, more environmentally sensitive design. The camp features 12 spacious tented suites set on raised decks overlooking the marsh, with simple, refined interiors and indoor and outdoor showers that enhance the connection to the surrounding landscape. Shared facilities include a lounge, bar, dining area, swimming pool, spa, gym, and a photographic studio, all designed to maximise views and guest experience. Its prime location offers access to both sides of the Mara River, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including river crossings and quieter game areas, as well as optional cultural visits to nearby Maasai communities.

Juan and Mel recently returned from a trip to Victoria Falls, where they experienced a wonderful mix of the destination’s properties, activities, and cultural attractions. Looked after by the Wild Horizons team and guided by Jairos throughout their stay, they enjoyed a helicopter flight over the Falls, lunch at Baines Restaurant, an elephant encounter, a Zambezi sundowner cruise, a visit to Mr Lovemore’s village, Dusty Road, and a Malachite Dinner Cruise. They stayed at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel, the newly refurbished Island Suites at Victoria Falls Island Lodge, and Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel, each offering a unique experience and exceptional hospitality. The trip provided a great insight into the variety of experiences available in Victoria Falls, and Juan and Mel recommend a minimum three-night stay to fully enjoy both the properties and the many attractions in the area.

Some of the team had a fantastic day with Slow Walks on Saturday and got to experience their Gardens & Grapes Hiking Experience. Shaen was an outstanding guide – so knowledgeable, warm, and engaging, and she made the walk really enjoyable from start to finish. The route through Kirstenbosch was absolutely stunning, with perfect weather and an abundance of flowers in bloom, and the coffee stop along the way was a real highlight. Ruth and Hennie were wonderful hosts throughout the day and ensured everything ran seamlessly. They finished off with a lovely wine tasting and harvest platters at Buitenverwachting, which was the perfect way to end the experience.

Tarryn has just returned from a fantastic visit to Singita Ebony Lodge and Singita Lebombo Lodge, along with inspections at Castleton, Boulders and Sweni, with each property offering its own distinct character. At Ebony, a warm welcome from Lindo and Alex set the tone for an intimate stay, with highlights including river-facing decks, comfortable suites, and incredible safari moments such as wild dogs on the airstrip and a close leopard sighting. Lebombo offered a more contemporary feel, with refreshed suites, vibrant public spaces including the interactive bar and wine cellar, and memorable guiding along the river at sunset. The inspections at Sweni, Castleton and Boulders further showcased strong design and ongoing enhancements, from Sweni’s intimate charm to Castleton’s new fitness facility and Boulders’ spacious Bush Suites. Across all properties, the visit reflected consistent warmth, attention to detail, and a strong sense of the people and conservation work behind the Singita experience.

Onguma has introduced a new Onkolo Soundscapes experience on the eastern edge of Etosha National Park, transforming the stillness of the bush into an immersive sensory encounter that invites guests to simply listen. Set within the water-level Onkolo Hide overlooking a busy waterhole, it offers a peaceful, distraction-free setting with exceptional eye-level viewing and photography opportunities. Using discreet, highly sensitive microphones placed around the hide, the experience amplifies natural bush sounds far beyond human hearing, revealing distant bird calls, subtle wildlife movement, and layered ambient soundscapes that would otherwise go unnoticed. As the first experience of its kind in Namibia, it offers a uniquely intimate and deeply engaging way to connect with the wilderness.
