SOUTH AFRICA: South African Airways improves baggage through-check

SA codeshare customers travelling on multiple sectors will be able to through-check their baggage to the final destination when booked on the SA code all the way, says SAA.

The Mango codeshare now joins SAA’s other partner airlines, SA Express, and SA Airlink which operate on the “SA” code, to allow customers to through-check baggage when their journey originates anywhere in South Africa.

“This latest improvement takes away the inconvenience of picking up and re-checking one’s baggage when connecting in Johannesburg, and saves time allowing customers more leisure time before departing on the next leg of their journey,” says Tlali Tlali, SAA Spokesperson.

Note that all international arriving customers, with their final destination in South Africa, still need to collect their baggage at the first port of entry as per customs regulations.

However, SA coded customers can make use of the conveniently located SAA and Mango re-check facility at the international arrivals hall for their onward domestic connections.

SOUTH AFRICA: Lions Head to close for maintenance

Lions Head will be closing at the beginning of 2019 for some much-needed maintenance, News24 reports.

South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed the trail will be closed entirely to Table Mountain National Park visitors from 7 January 2019 to 15 February 2019. Signal Hill will remain open to the public during this time as a viewing point.

Full closure is required for the successful completion of this "much needed intervention' on the popular spiral trail up to the summit, says SANParks.

The aim is to "improve the longevity of the trail, safety of hikers in the area and the environmental protection of the Lions Head and Signal Hill", following a Trail Audit Report on the Lions Head and Signal Hill footpath network was completed.

Minor upgrades that did not interrupted trail access have been done since the report results were completed in 2017 however, TMNP will now embark on one of the more intensive phases of the project where the condition of the trail will be addressed.

"No access will be permitted to hikers or runners via the track entrance along Signal Hill Drive. This includes the restriction on access after sunset and before sunrise. Due to the maintenance in progress we cannot guarantee the safe passage of visitors along the path way and hence the entire trail will be closed," says SANParks.

New medicine form requirement when entering UAE

Travellers heading to the UAE with medication will now need to fill in a new form when travelling, according to Express.

The Ministry of Health website has advised that any medication must be declared on a form if travelling to the country.

This means that any passengers with controlled or semi-controlled medicine can take in up to a month of the prescription.

Controlled substances in Dubai include substances such as codeine, while semi-controlled drugs can include antidepressants.

Passengers can take up to three months of non-controlled medicine, which is any medicine that does not require a prescription.

The form can be found for free at www.mohap.gov.ae, where information such as passport number, doctor's prescription and other details of the holiday are inputted.
