Earlier this week, we had the privilege of delivering a guest lecture at Philippi Village for a group of aspiring entrepreneurs enrolled in an entrepreneurship programme designed by the Bertha Centre at UCT.

Our session focused on an important but often overlooked part of building a successful business: Finding the Right Co-Founder.

Starting a business is challenging enough on your own, but choosing the right person to build with can have a significant impact on the direction, culture and sustainability of the venture.

We explored practical questions around:
• What to look for in a co-founder
• Complementary skills versus similar skills
• Shared values and vision
• Trust, communication and accountability
• How to navigate disagreements and difficult decisions
• Understanding roles and responsibilities from the beginning

What stood out most was the level of engagement from the entrepreneurs. The conversations reminded us that entrepreneurship is not only about having a great idea it is also about having the right people around the table to turn that idea into something meaningful and sustainable.

Thank you to the Bertha Centre and Philippi Village for creating a platform where emerging entrepreneurs can learn, question, connect and grow.

It was a privilege to share our experiences and hopefully leave the participants with practical insights they can apply as they build their businesses.

The right idea matters. The right co-founder can make all the difference.

What an incredible day showcasing the best of Khayelitsha through local stories, culture, and adventure!

Yesterday we hosted a full-day experience that began with our Historic Walk, where our guests explored the rich heritage, untold stories, and iconic landmarks that have shaped Cape Town’s history.

In the afternoon, we swapped the streets for the vibrant roads of Khayelitsha as we embarked on our Cycling Tour. Riding through the community gave our guests the opportunity to connect with local entrepreneurs, experience township life firsthand, and discover the warmth, resilience, and creativity that make Khayelitsha so special.

Every tour is more than just sightseeing it’s about creating meaningful connections, supporting local communities, and sharing authentic South African experiences.

What an incredible day on the bikes!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful family from the Netherlands for our Khayelitsha Cycling Experience. It was an amazing opportunity to share the vibrant spirit of our community, meet inspiring local entrepreneurs, and experience the rich culture and history that make Khayelitsha so special.

From riding through the neighbourhoods to engaging with local businesses and hearing authentic stories from the people who call Khayelitsha home, the experience was filled with meaningful connections, smiles, and unforgettable memories.

A heartfelt thank you to our guests for choosing to explore beyond the ordinary and for supporting community-based tourism. Every visit contributes to creating opportunities for local businesses and showcasing the true beauty of our township.

We look forward to welcoming many more visitors to experience Khayelitsha through local eyes.

Today was a fantastic opportunity to connect, collaborate, and be inspired.

We were delighted to join fellow members for a coffee networking session, creating meaningful conversations and strengthening relationships within our tourism community.

The highlight of the day was being hosted by the incredible Cobra Experience team for an unforgettable ride around Cape Town. It was a wonderful way to experience the city’s beauty from a different perspective while sharing ideas, stories, and our collective passion for showcasing Cape Town as a world-class destination.

A big thank you to everyone involved in making today such a memorable experience. Here’s to stronger partnerships, new opportunities, and continuing to grow tourism together.

Two Weeks on CapeTalk – Sharing the Story of Khayelitsha Through Tourism

Over the past two weeks, we had the privilege of joining CapeTalk to share the work we do at ABCD Concepts / ABCD Travel and our vision of building Destination Khayelitsha through responsible, community-based tourism.

These conversations were an opportunity to highlight the incredible entrepreneurs, creatives, local businesses, and cultural experiences that make Khayelitsha one of Cape Town’s most vibrant destinations. We also spoke about the power of tourism to create jobs, support local economies, and change perceptions by connecting visitors with authentic local stories.
