A special afternoon at Welgemeend Art Month, joining Frank Kilbourn and Pippa Skotnes for a walkabout through From Concept to Object | Wanneer Idees Gestalte Kry.
The walkabout offered a fascinating glimpse into the ideas, histories and personal connections behind the exhibition, bringing together works from the Kilbourn Collection across generations, mediums and artistic practices.
It was particularly moving to hear Pippa Skotnes speak about her late father, Cecil Skotnes, sharing memories of his life, his work and the artists around him. One detail that stayed with us was her recollection of the sounds of him working — sharpening tools, carving into wood, and the changing rhythm as the tool moved with and against the grain.
A beautiful reminder that art is not only about what we see, but what we feel, remember and experience.
