I was happy to be involved at Blaauwberg Nature Reserve last weekend with the talk by Ian van Oordt on the Waldeckers retreat at the battle of Blaauwberg. It was the 216th anniversary of the battle and the Friends of Blaauwberg Conservation Area as always held an event. My involvement was to introduce Ian and to advise the attendees on the importance of Ian's book that was published last year. Following the talk I then had the very happy task of presenting the Reserve with a copy of Ian's book for research purposes. At last I have got back to writing articles on my website. It has been a while mainly due to being busy on engineering work. But, a short holiday up to Elandsbaai was worthwhile with history research and seeing another of the old radar stations from WW2. I have recieved details that guided walks can now be taken at the reserves as long as Covid precautions are taken. So it will mean numbers are limited and face coverings required, but it is great news. I will keep you uodated when walks are planned.

At last a walk in the reserve. Stephanie, Alwyn and myself managed to get out and check the paths, and the water levels in Blaauwberg.

Great news, the Cape Town Reserves are due to open up this weekend. Very soon we will be back hiking the Battlefield at Blaauwberg and checking out the birding hides at Rietvlei.
