THE KHOEKHOE SAGA
… this is when it all started, which was in 2004 when visiting Mamre, more specifically the Moravian Church in Mamre, I was told that this huge bolder covered by an ancient syringa tree used to serve as the spot for auctioning slaves. I got hooked on it wanting to know more, digging myself into the history of the First Nation People of Southern Africa, the Khoe and the San nation.
Besides going through numerous books, participating in Khoe and San traditional events, chief and royalty gatherings, I also became a member of indigenous and tribal councils. Visiting related conferences and providing media and logistics support to defined tribes rounds it all up.
The NGO, established in 2007, today named Indigenous Peoples Society of South Africa NPC, IPSOSA, forming the base for supporting various local communities in the Cape Town vicinity.
To shoot a documentary, rewriting the narrative on the Khoekhoe was not a question any longer, its title THE KHOEKHOE SAGA. Commencing shooting in 2017, completing the 7-episode version in 2022, broadcasted by SABC2 during 2023.
With all my heart I would like to thank firstly the National Lotteries Commission of South Africa for its grand thereby believing in the project. Credits go to the director, a descendant of the Khoekhoe, of the 7-episode epic documentary, the crew and cast, historians and Khoe activists with many other supporters including the helping hands not listed under the following credits but have been direct and indirect influential in the process.
