The ultimate perk of investing in global real estate. 💼🦓With my official offer submitted to the developer, there was nothing left to do but step back and let the legal teams do their work.

I spent my last full day at Aquila Game Reserve, taking in the incredible South African wildlife and reflecting on how fast this entire journey moved.

Experiencing a safari right outside the city center highlights exactly why Cape Town real estate is a goldmine for foreign capital. You aren’t just buying four walls; you are buying into a robust, world-class tourism infrastructure. High-spending international travelers flock here year-round, creating a massive, highly resilient demand for luxury short-term rental accommodations.I came here looking for an asset to hedge against inflation, but I’m leaving with a lifelong connection to this beautiful country.

Investing responsibly while building global wealth. 🏛️🇿🇦

After analyzing endless floor plans, I finally found the international asset I was looking for. My realtor secured a private showing with Blok, one of Cape Town’s most forward-thinking developers. What drew me to this specific project was its focus on historic preservation and adaptive reuse, repurposing an iconic structure to protect local heritage without displacing the community. The first unit embraced the building’s original structural layout, which is beautiful, but I needed a slightly different configuration for my specific investment model.

Then, he walked me into a beautifully optimized model unit. The design integration, the lifestyle features, and the rental potential hit every single metric on my checklist. It felt less like a generic investment and more like a generational homebase.

I called my husband on the spot. His response? “Put an offer on it. Finding the right asset requires a developer focused on sustainable urban growth, the right neighborhood, and a trusted local team on the ground.

Don’t let beautiful staging trick you into a bad property investment. 📉🇿🇦
On paper, this extended studio in De Waterkant checked a lot of boxes. The area is highly walkable, ultra-trendy, and heavily targeted by international travelers. But stepping inside revealed the ultimate real estate trap: it felt like a hotel room, not a homebase.

Many foreign investors chase high peak-season Airbnb projections without looking at the bigger picture. Micro-apartments with no private outdoor space, no lifestyle amenities, and tight layouts face massive competition on rental apps. When the off-season hits, your vacancy rate skyrockets.

An international asset should protect your wealth, not leave you vulnerable to seasonal tourist fluctuations. I need a balance of strong ROI and true generational utility. The search continues.

A few more moments from life in Cape Town. 🇿🇦✨ From the Atlantis Dunes to wine country and skyline views in the CBD, every day here reminds me why I fell in love with this city.

Episode 8 of 16 | Investing in South Africa as an American | Cape Town Investment Diaries

The apartment tours officially began!

This first property checked a lot of boxes. It was a beautiful, newer building with incredible views, professional management, and several floor plans to consider.

But one thing I’ve learned is that buying property isn’t about falling in love with the first beautiful place you see.
It’s about knowing what matters most to you.

For us, flexibility was important. We wanted a property we could enjoy ourselves and also use as a vacation rental when we weren’t there. Since this building didn’t allow that, it wasn’t the right fit for our goals.
That doesn’t make it a bad investment—it just wasn’t our investment.
And that’s an important difference.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through international travel is to stay curious.

Yes, I came to Cape Town to explore real estate opportunities, but I also wanted to better understand the people, industries, and businesses that make this region so special.

Thanks to my driver Guido, I spent the day visiting four incredible wineries, meeting passionate people, hearing their stories, and learning more about one of South Africa’s most celebrated industries.

Sometimes the greatest value in a trip isn’t just what you planned to see.
It’s the conversations you never expected to have and the possibilities you never imagined exploring.

Tomorrow, the apartment tours finally begin.

Some cities impress you.
Others make you feel like you belong.
This day perfectly captured why Cape Town stayed on my heart for two years.

One moment I was racing across the Atlantis Sand Dunes in a Jeep. The next, I was shopping at the V&A Waterfront, treating myself to a manicure in Sea Point, stumbling across a group of strangers salsa dancing in the street, and ending the evening with fish and chips (and yes... fried donuts!) at Mojo Market.

Those weren’t just fun experiences.
They were little glimpses into what everyday life here could feel like.

As I explored more of Cape Town, I wasn’t just falling in love with the destination—I was beginning to imagine what it would be like to call a small piece of it our own.

One question I received recently was whether international buyers make things more expensive for locals. It's an important conversation.
I believe investing should be done responsibly—supporting local businesses, creating jobs, respecting the community, and contributing to the local economy rather than simply taking from it.
During every visit, I choose locally owned restaurants, shop at neighborhood markets, hire local professionals, and experience Cape Town the way its residents do. Travel and investment have the greatest impact when everyone benefits.
That's the approach I share throughout my South Africa investment journey. 🇿🇦❤️

I wasn’t trying to cram as much sightseeing as possible into this trip.

I was trying to answer one question:
Could I really picture my family spending time here every year?

That’s why I slowed down.
I visited local markets, enjoyed long lunches, explored neighborhoods, and paid attention to how Cape Town felt beyond the tourist attractions.
Sometimes the best investment decisions aren’t made during property tours.
They’re made in the quiet moments when you realize a place already feels familiar.

Cape Town was beginning to feel that way for me.

One vacation changed everything. 🇿🇦
What started as a family trip to Cape Town became an international real estate journey I never saw coming.
Over the past four episodes of my South Africa Investment Diaries, I've shared how we discovered Cape Town, why we fell in love with the lifestyle, and how that single trip shifted the way I think about travel, wealth, and investing.
This is only the beginning. If you've missed the series, now's the perfect time to catch up—and if you've been following along, thank you for joining me on this journey. 🌍✨
