North Star A-46, they are
a small boutique pro builder here in Cape Town (the people involved have built Gunboats and Chris Whites). She will be very light for a 46' cat (6.8 Kg) but still handle a payload of 2500 Lbs. She has a lot of performance options including a full carbon mast, boom, forebeam, daggerboards, rudders, etc. Carbon Vectra fiber racing sails by North Sails. She is hybrid/electric and powered by dual OceanVolt electric shaft drive motors capable of regeneration power of 5 K watts when sailing at 10 knots. She is quite capable of 20 knots when reaching. She also has 6 high output solar panels and a 16 K watt backup generator for when the 10 Lithium Ion Super B batteries get low. With a large fuel tank, she will be capable of 800-1,000 nautical mile range with the generator, but with sun and regeneration, she could conceivably be self-powering. She has a 14.5 to 1 hull length to width ratio (most product cats in her size are 10 to 1 or less) so very narrow hulls that are easily driven, but we have managed to make the interior quite liveable and roomy. 3 staterooms - two over the bridge deck and one in the aft Port side. Canting steering wheels allow her to be both 'outside and inside' steering options.
