🌸 Happy Women's Day 🌟

The 9th of August, South Africa lights up with celebration for Women's Day, a national holiday that stands as a tribute to the unity and unwavering strength of our remarkable women.

"Wathint' Abafazi, Wathint' Imbokodo" – these empowering words resound from the historic Women's March of 1956. This anthem encapsulates the courage and determination exhibited during a pivotal moment in our history when women united against growing oppression.

In 1952, pass laws extended their grasp to include black women, imposing restrictions on the movement of Black, Indian, and Coloured individuals. These laws defined where one could be and moving beyond those designated areas risked arrest.

The response was fierce. A chorus of protests emerged, punctuating our history with moments of defiance. Regrettably, the Apartheid regime's response often brought forth violence against those who dared to raise their voices.

Yet, in 1956, over 20,000 audacious women embarked on a historic march to Pretoria's Union Buildings. Their collective spirit was fuelled by a mission of racial harmony and equality, a powerful challenge to the proposed pass laws of the apartheid era.

This event, ignited against pass laws, ignited the flame of women's emancipation and their journey towards equality. As we honor this milestone, we embrace the worldwide message of unity and empowerment that the Women's March of 1956 embodies. It's a reminder that unity has the power to shatter chains and forge lasting change.

Today, we honor these women by celebrating the unbreakable strength and resilience they bring to South African society. Join us in saluting their legacy. 💪🌸
