Looking back at memories in Mashatu, Botswana, offering amazing hide photography with alluring waterholes attracting mighty beasts to quench their thirst, providing close-ups difficult to imagine, but a joy to photograph!

Hides are sunken into the ground, allowing you to photograph from ground level. Your time in the hides is as much a sensory experience as it is a photographic one. No glass separating you from the wild allows you to see, smell, feel and hear the wonders of nature from a worms-eye perspective.

Masks symbolize the worship of ancestors and spirits and play an important role during the commemoration of rites and the cycle of life in West Africa. During the Bwa Mask ceremony, the frantic dancing and hypnotizing, beguiling rhythms transform the entranced mask wearer into a spirit which communicates with the ancestors.

The Bwa Masks are covered with red, white and black geometric patterns which are called scars and are identical in shape to the scars worn by the Bwa people on their faces and bodies. We timed our journey before the rains as the masks come out to bless the harvest and call the rain.

The Gelede masks in Benin honours female elders and motherhood. A mask is worn by men masquerading as women in order to please the mothers. This performances also include elaborate animal motifs, and fire masks around a beautiful central tree. The motifs on their masks symbolise various aspects of life from the balancing act of marriage and friendship, to leadership and religion and much more. It is fascinating to learn what each masks means.

We love finding hidden accomodation gems in remote places for our guests.

This is where we escape to along the coast in Benin near Ouidah during our Voodoo Festival Photo Tour. It is the perfect place to wind down after busy days photographing.

We are excited for our next photographic adventure - the Galápagos Islands.

The Galápagos Islands are widely regarded as one of the most exceptional wildlife destinations on Earth, not because of dramatic scenery alone, but because of the rare sense of intimacy they offer with nature. Nowhere else can you walk along a beach while sea lions nap beside the path, or observe marine iguanas basking in the sun as if humans were not present at all.
