ITALY / FIJI: UPDATE: Coronavirus – Fiji bans travellers from Italy.

Fiji is imposing a travel ban on foreign nationals who have been to Italy within the past 14 days, CNN reports, to reduce the risk of an outbreak in the country.

It will go into effect tomorrow (February 28), and all international air travellers will have their temperature checked upon arrival, starting March 2.

NIGERIA: Nigeria will issue visas-on-arrival for African nationals Africans can gain visa-free entry into Nigeria, starting in January 2020.

According to media reports, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the new exemption law at the Aswan peace and development forum in Egypt.

He said the country would begin issuing visas on arrival for all African nationals.

SOUTH AFRICA / NIGERIA: Airline launches JNB-Lagos route ✈️✈️

eTNW reports that TAAG will commence a twice-weekly flight from Johannesburg to Lagos via Luanda from December 16.
The flights will operate on Mondays and Fridays.

Flight DT576 will depart from Johannesburg at 06h50 and arrive in Luanda at 09h20. Flight DT563 departs from Luanda at 11h30 to arrive in Lagos at 14h30. Return flight DT565 will depart Lagos at 15h30 and arrive in Luanda at 18h30. Flight DT575 departs from Luanda at 20h30 and arrives in Johannesburg the following day at 01h05.

SOUTH AFRICA: Comair, Mango and SAA aircrafts grounded
eTNW reports that Comair, Mango and SAA have warned travellers of affected flights schedules and flight delays as a result of safety concerns and irregularities at South African Airways Technical (SAAT).

The SAA’s flights will operate later than usual, with four domestic flight cancellations, and that it has contingency plans in place, including deploying bigger aircraft to accommodate affected passengers.

Comair has contingency plans in place to minimise disruptions to operations and urges passengers to check their flight status on relevant websites for kulula.com and British Airways.

Travellers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

NEW YORK: JFK Uber Copter transfers open to all users
Uber has opened its new Uber Copter service between John F. Kennedy International Airport and lower Manhattan to all users, Business Traveller reports.

Prices range from US$200 (R2968) to $225 (R3340) for an eight-minute one-way trip from JFK to lower Manhattan.

Uber Copter rides are offered on weekdays during rush hour traffic.

AMSTERDAM / LONDON: Eurostar to launch direct Amsterdam-London route Eurostar will launch a direct train from Amsterdam to London on December 15, reports The Independent.

Prior to this, passengers could travel direct from London to Amsterdam in three hours and 55 minutes, but on the return journey, they had to take a Thalys train and change to the Eurostar at Brussels Midi after going through security and customs checks.

LONDON NEWS: Electric buses for two more London routes Londonist reports that by the end of October, two north London bus routes will be using the first fully-electric double-decker fleets across the network. Routes 43 and 134 both head into central London.

The 43 runs from Friern Barnet to London Bridge, while the 134 runs from North Finchley to Warren Street.

There are now more than 200 electric buses operating in London as part of the Mayor’s plan to tackle the city’s air quality crisis and reduce carbon emissions.
