Better than fine, actually. If you have the means to travel, do yourself a favour and visit.
6 Highlights from our time there:
• Discovered the independent bookstore and found a great book on Gandhi’s legacy, recommended by called “The South African Ghandi” by Desai & Vahed
• Had one of the best curries of my life at .
• Explored the city through a walking tour that offered real insight into Durban’s inner CBD through the lens of small informal food businesses, especially women, well done !
• Ate the softest beef at Bovine Head Market, simply seasoned with salt and pepper, where Zulu chefs cook amid steaming pots and sizzling pans.
• Visited one of Durban’s oldest spice shops, Fair Price Shop, for essential Durban masala and spoke with famous Abdul Jabar, now nearly 80, who has worked there since he was 14.
• Slowed down at , a recommendation from our friend and fellow travel enthusiast . Thompson’s Bay reminded us that tranquility doesn’t always require long-distance travel!
Durban shows up if you do.
