Offroad Routes and Tours

Offroad Routes and Tours Freedom, adventure, and travel – a combination that’s hard to beat. We meet extraordinary people and find beauty in Southern Africa.

At Offroad Routes and Tours, we do guided self-drive trips to interesting places in Southern Africa that have remained preserved as close to the original natural beauty. A 4-wheel drive vehicle rigged for camping is essential to reach some of the most beautiful spots. We travel for the pure joy of it and few things beat the sense of freedom when exploring places where only some have dared to ventu

re. Wild camping is part and parcel of how we travel, but for variety, we might stay in a guest house now and then. Freedom, adventure, and travel – a combination that’s hard to beat.

Kalahari hospitality at its absolute finest!

Our very first night of the Kalahari tour at Molopo Kalahari Lodge kicked off on the ultimate high note! We were spoiled with an incredible feast of top-quality meat, generously sponsored by Die Skaapwinkel.

From mouthwatering skaapstertjies and tender Karoo lamb chops to juicy beef skewers and delicious lamb cheese sausage — it was a braai of note that reminds you why farm-fresh quality just hits differently!

To top it off, Riaan and the Molopo team prepared delicious fresh salads and freshly baked bread for us. There is truly nothing quite like hot, freshly baked bread with real farm butter and apricot jam around the campfire.

A massive thank you to Renier and his team for spoiling our guests' bellies right from day one. Your quality speaks for itself!

Heading up north? Make sure to get your top-quality meat from Die Skaapwinkel on your way to the Kgalagadi!

They call it "Mabua magic," but words don't quite reach it—you have to stand on the edge of the pans, from Mabua to Mapaya, and watch it happen.

On our recent Kalahari tour, the sunsets were pure liquid gold, spilling across the open horizons and setting the Kalahari sky ablaze. 🌅

As the light softens into deep violet, the stillness settles in—that rare, complete silence you only find deep in the Kgalagadi. Then comes the best part of the day: the wood stacked, the fire crackling into life, and everyone gathered around the glow. Out on these tracks, what starts as a convoy of strangers always ends as lifelong friends under the Kalahari stars. ✨🔥

No rush, no clutter—just wide-open skies, true connection, and the raw beauty of the wild.

Pre-Tour Kalahari Magic: Meeting the Meerkats of Chayah 🐾🌵

Before our official Kalahari tour kicked off and the rest of the group arrived, André and I made a special stop near Askham with one of our tour couples to visit the Chayah Kalahari Project 2025/268702/08 — and it was pure magic.

Founded by Wessel and Alma, Chayah is a registered non-profit doing vital work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rewilding meerkats threatened by the illegal pet trade.

Sitting in the red dunes with just the six of us, enjoying a quiet picnic while a group of rehabilitated meerkats naturally foraging around us, was an experience we’ll cherish forever. Knowing that visits like this directly fund their rehabilitation back into the wild makes it even more meaningful.

If you’re ever traveling up through Askham, we cannot recommend visiting Chayah enough. Please consider supporting the incredible work they do!

April in the Namib: Raw Beauty, Pristine Tracks & Desert Magic 🌊🏜️

Throwing it back to our incredible Meob Bay expedition earlier this year!

There’s a quiet reverence that comes with driving through the towering dunes of the world’s oldest desert. Dropping down to the wild Atlantic shore for world-class coastal angling, followed by evenings around the campfire under a sky brimming with stars — this is overlanding in its purest form.

At Offroad Routes and Tours, we believe the ultimate privilege of exploring these remote, pristine ecosystems is leaving them exactly as we found them. Pure off-grid freedom, zero footprint left behind, and memories that last a lifetime.

🌄 Trans Kouga Wilderness — a journey that stays with you.

There’s something about the Kouga Mountains that never leaves you.

The quiet. The raw beauty. The feeling of being completely immersed in wild, untouched spaces where time slows down, and the world feels wide again.

Our Trans Kouga Wilderness Adventure has become one of those routes that consistently reminds us why we love overlanding —
• remote two‑spoor tracks through fynbos and rugged mountain passes
• forested camps tucked against cliffs and streams
• river crossings, kloofs, and panoramic viewpoints that stop you in your tracks
• evenings around the fire where stories, stillness, and stars all carry equal weight

It’s a route that grounds you, stretches you, and gifts you the kind of memories that settle deep.

We’re sharing a few moments from one of our favourite Kouga journeys — a reminder of why this wilderness remains one of the most special places we get to explore.

A surprise Meob run — and we’re not complaining.

We’re heading back into one of Namibia’s most sacred corners — Meob Bay and the endless desert that holds it.

There’s nothing quite like this stretch of coastline:
• Sleeping under a sky so full of stars it feels alive
• The deep quiet of the desert wrapping around camp
• Dune lines that test your skill and reward your courage
• Casting a line into Meob’s icy waters and waiting for that sudden pull
• The kind of stillness you only find far from everything

Meob has a way of reminding you how small you are… and how free you can feel.

See you on the other side of the dunes.

🔥 Kgalagadi — where the wild still whispers, and the road chooses you.

There’s a moment in the Kgalagadi when the world slows down — when the long grass bends in the wind, the sun melts into the dunes, and the 2‑spoor ahead feels like an invitation rather than a route.

The dust hangs low behind the vehicle.
The fire waits for you at camp.
And the silence… that deep, ancient silence… becomes part of the journey.

This is why we go back.
This is why we choose the road less travelled.
