Breaking news: A dramatic and cheeky break-in at the Kayser's Beach Social Club netted a significant amount of spirits while the alarm was blaring.
"At 20 past three this morning Red Alert called me," club chair Leon T said on WA Sat.
"So, I went up there and Mike was already there, on the spot."
The burglars got in via a 1.2 x 1.2 window.
"On the patio side, behind the bar, they took out a huge window pane," Leon told Kayser's Connect.
"They took out the beeding and everything, kicked in the burglar guards, and then made off, while the alarm was going!"
He said they "took a substantial amount of alcohol. Spirits mostly and some Flying Fish cans. It was just the alcohol they were after."
He said they'd have to do stocktake Sunday coz he was out hunting Sat (lol. Waar's my biltong?), and by 9.30am, they were still waiting for the police.
"There's a lot of spirits gone. Almost every one of the full bottles, and I keep about two and a half bottles of everything, and I think there's only one full bottle left. The others have all gone. So, it's a substantial amount."
He said "It is what it is" and they now had to "fix up and do the repairs and stuff".

Yhu! There's a thief on the loose in . Busy. Breaking in stealing jewellery from Hanna's house and booze from the social club.
It was 4h10. On a Saturday morning. When the msg came through.
"The social club has just been broken into," a post announced on the Action Group WA. "Booze stolen."
Wtf, mense. Thundergun can't be here, there, and everywhere. Not at this rate of smash n grab.
Maybe it's time to revise my thinking about cameras and privacy. And start exploring where cameras and security intersect.
Tks, Ai.
Yes, security cameras help deter crime by increasing the perceived risk of capture for potential offenders, while also providing critical evidence to identify suspects and secure convictions.
Psychological Deterrence: Visible cameras alter the behavior of opportunistic criminals. Knowing they are being recorded forces many to reconsider illegal actions.
Real-Time Intervention: Cameras tied to proactive monitoring systems (where operators are actively watching feeds or utilizing AI-driven analytics) allow security personnel to dispatch law enforcement to intercept a crime before it escalates.
Targeted Environments: Criminological research shows cameras are most effective in enclosed or controlled areas like car parks and residential estates.
Limitations to Keep in Mind. Reactive Recording: Standalone or unmonitored systems often only capture the event after it has happened. If a crime is quick, recording footage will not stop the immediate loss of property.
Crime Displacement: In some instances, cameras merely push criminal activity to adjacent areas or streets that do not have surveillance, rather than eliminating the crime altogether.
Not a Physical Barrier: Cameras on their own cannot physically stop someone from breaking a window, entering a home, or committing acts of violence.
* To achieve the best results, cameras are generally most effective when used as part of a layered security strategy (e.g., combining them with alarm systems, physical barriers, or active live-monitoring) rather than relying on them as the sole defense.
So, I don't know. The 24/7 Open Eye what-what won't guarantee peace of mind. And it's another layer of expenses. And cameras will kinda pockmark . Hmmm. Jury's out on this one. What do you think about security cameras in Kayser's in a bid to deter opportunistic crime?

It costs R5 to spend a penny in Greenfields, Buffalo City, ECZA. The phrase "spend a penny" is a quintessentially British euphemism that means to use the restroom. It originates from the Victorian era when public pay toilets were introduced, requiring users to insert a one-penny coin into a coin-operated slot to unlock the cubicle door.
* Coin-operated locks: Starting in the mid-1850s, the United Kingdom introduced coin-operated locks on public lavatory doors. You had to physically drop a penny into the lock mechanism to gain entry to the toilet.
* The gender gap: While public male urinals were usually free to deter men from urinating on the streets, women were required to use sit-down cubicles, which always cost a penny.
* The phrase's popularity: Although the locks existed as early as the 1850s, the idiom itself became highly popular in the mid-20th century. It was widely used by women as a polite and discreet way to excuse themselves.
* Today, the phrase is considered a slightly archaic, quaint, or humorous expression. Because the cost of public restrooms has inflated well beyond a penny (and many are free), the idiom survives as a nostalgic nod to the past.
Ps. R5 on a par with pay toilets in rest of Africa and Latin America. Europe, UK more expensive and Asia uses QR codes for access.
