Last night in Satara tomorrow we off to Skakuza for one night then some R&R in Marloth Park for two nights. Been a great 8 nights in the Kruger so far.

Some great sightings over the last couple of days in the Kruger. More stories and pics to follow.
This guy was chasing an Impala which I saw a way ahead of us then he followed down the small embankment and casually took a stroll along the road in front of us much to our enjoyment.

So, after our *very* chilly introduction to the camping fraternity 🥶❄️, we realised pretty quickly that if we didn’t make a plan, we’d soon be classified as frozen goods.

First order of business? Close off the awning for those delightful Gauteng winter months 🌬️—because clearly, “fresh air” is overrated when it feels like you’re camping in a freezer.

Then came the upgrade that changed everything: a gas heater 🔥. Suddenly, stepping into the caravan felt less like entering the Antarctic and more like… well, at least a mild spring day 😄.

Not stopping there (because we enjoy having circulation in our limbs), we added electric blankets 🙌—absolute game changers when the temperature dips into single digits and your bed feels like an ice tray 🧊.

Throw in a few thick fleece blankets 🛌, and just like that, you’re wrapped up tighter than a winter parcel—warm, snug, and almost forgetting that outside it’s basically a survival exercise 😅🔥.

So… our **very first camp** with our newly bought “treasure” 🏕️ took place from 27–29 June 2025 at Almega Caravan Park in Dinokeng. The plan? Test how well we handle winter camping. The reality? Character building 😂

The campsite was great — big stand, private ablutions (non-negotiable for F***y 😄), and all the bush vibes just outside Pretoria.

We even arrived feeling like pros after ordering fancy LED lights from the *legendary* Temu. Mood lighting? Sorted.

Then night arrived…
…and so did **2–3°C** 🥶

Let’s just say — we were not prepared. At all.

Somewhere between freezing toes and questioning our life choices, a “small” to-do list was born:

* Buy a gas heater (urgently… like yesterday)
* Relocate the 2-plate gas cooker (currently positioned for maximum inconvenience)
* Fridge decided it’s on strike → needs a service
* Caravan shower head sprays like a wild garden hose → replace
* More light needed on the fridge side (because apparently darkness exists there)
* And MOST IMPORTANTLY…
→ Get side and front awning walls if we plan on surviving winter camping and not becoming human ice blocks

All in all,… first trip success 😅
We survived, we learned, and we now know that winter camping is not for the faint-hearted (or poorly insulated).

Can’t wait for the next trip… slightly wiser and definitely warmer 🔥

Where the adventure began, back in April 2025 and boy did we go wild. We decided to scope out some gnarly offroad caravans so we could hit the road and pretend we're actual grown-ups while camping. We snagged an Echo Kavango 2015 model that was so clean, it almost seemed unused - straight from the magic hands of We Buy Cars. It had all the essentials: solar and gas hookups, an internal shower because nature wasn't doing the job, and it slept four - because who's counting when you're on a family road trip? It came with an awning that we had no clue how to close, some dodgy kitchen gear, some utensils that might not cut through your steak, and a two-plate gas stove that would make Gordon Ramsay cry. Let the shenanigans begin 🚗🏕️🌤️😊👍
