Its such a pleasure for us to renew old friendships created through our mutual love of riding adventure bikes , and we enjoyed a very social one-nighter on Friday with the XL-ent Tribe, in the persons of Sunset Tribe 's Johan Swarts , his boet Stefan Swarts and a really lekker introduction to their old toppie Dirk astride an XL650 , and accompanied by newbie rider Eddie.
Dirk and I are of an almost identical vintage, so I felt an instant bond of friendship with him because its so lekker to meet other silver bullet riders stil going strong!
And I really enjoyed Eddie's story about his very recent conversion to adventure riding --- he watched the Sunset Tribe's Youtube vids and fell in love with the idea. Next thing he was on a sparkling 890 and here he came!! Great stuff to see good work by guys passionate about riding yielding such positive results!
So a great evening of kuiering and yarns and relaxed enjoyment!

Well, well, well! What one heck of a lekker weekend its been here! With huge thanks to my very good old friend Larry Eschner for organising it all, we've just had our very first Micro Fly In here with fantastic bunch of wonderful pilots!
Flying an interesting array of light planes, ranging from microlights of varying models, a beautiful Magni gyro to an immaculate red and white Husky it was an eclectic collection of magnificent flying machines and their men.
The first plane joined overhead early Friday morning as Martin flew in and landed, followed by another nice bunch of planes over the ensuing couple of hours.
Friday arvie we took a relaxed two hour very scenic flight down to De Hoop dam giving me a much-appreciated chance to see that my flying skills have not entirely deserted me! Thanks Larry, I owe you big-time for that!
Our old friend Robert also joined us giving us lots of time to chew the breeze about our early years of flying, really great to catch up again!
Saturday saw David and Sean flying in and we had a very pleasantday to swop stories about flying and all the experiences that go hand in hand with it!
Fantastic times for us it was!!

Our tranquil valley has just been ringing with the vocal melody of happy young voices playing out and about exactly as young kids should! We've just enjoyed a super visit by the Grand Patriach Howard and his better half June, together with offspring Catherine, hubby Simon, Jax and my old pal Jester, and seemingly a whole tribe of kids playing boisterously in a lovely rural setting. Cuzzins Levi and Ethan set the tone by dismissing tech-toys electric bicycles after a short foray in favour of the kinda stuff today's kids seldom get the opportunity to indulge in -- dam building in a muddy ditch of fresh farm run-off!
Bare foot, down and muddily dirty, ably encourage by a sunken gramps they spent most of the daylight engineering and constructing their own Little Kariba! Made me very happy to see them revelling in old fashioned kids-play sans batteries or thumbz!!🙂🙂

Easter here was a happy weekend of family, fun and laughter for us hosting Dave, family and friends! We got to meet baby Gabi, proudly shown to us by Jude and Dave, what a lovely young lady she already is growing up to be! Also Debs with the boys Dale and Ryan with pal Nick -- Dale coming of age today Tuesday stepping over the threshold of young manhood as he turns 18! Thats a magic age to be, with the whole world stretching endlessly before one, replete with a million luring possibilities. Happy happies bud!
Also with them Thomas Hein, the new head honcho of KTM SA, and a real pleasure to meet him too.
Bikes are always part of the Griffin's lives, and much riding, roostin' and gallivanting around on our tracks and trails was enjoyed by all.
Sunset Rock for a final evening's sundowners was as magical as ever, providing a lovely golden orange scene as the sun settled out west, the colour so apt to remind us all of that stalwart brand amongst brands -- KTM!!
A great weekend thus celebrated and much enjoyed by us all

Our campsite was host to some lovely canines and their humans over the weekend! Some dogs just got it waxed, and own good people!! Nice to see city mutts having fun in the country.
I must add that all of these hounds are rescues from previously unhappy circumstances. Well done to Helen and Andrew for being the kind of folks I really like who care for canines!!!

The Middelburg Manne were here for a weekend of riding, fun and just chilling! Really nice to see them back here again, and lekker to see how quickly the kids grow ever taller and so much better at riding!!!
