I love Wandile Sihlobo, he and Langelihle Simela has carried the Agritourism Africa torch from the beginning when I cornered him at an Agbiz (Agricultural Business Chamber) conference 8 years ago. At a time when despite my journalist skills (pre-school compared to Wandile) I kept on saying Agritourism is NOT confined to farm stays (why does the tourism industry insist on placing us in that box?!). AGRITOURISM is an ECONOMIC, ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE, WORKING WITH FARMERS AND RURAL COMMUNITIES!! Elim is celebrating its bicentennial in August.

This Moravian missionary town is a member of the Nuwejaars Wetlands Special Management Area. Not least because of the incredible Elim Ferricrete Fynbos that occurs around the town, a vital part of the town’s rich heritage.

It is difficult to describe the impact the floods in the Western Cape have had on all communities, whether urban or rural...my heart goes out to rural communities who are isolated by the floods...dams have to release water when they reach capacity...I want to thank Gift of the Givers; the Western Cape Emergencies Services, Western Cape Farmers and Caring Individuals for helping in the rescue operations ... , and xx
