🐋 3 DAYS. THOUSANDS OF OCEAN LOVERS. WHAT A WEEKEND AT THE HERMANUS WHALE FESTIVAL!

White Shark Projects was proud to be part of this incredible celebration of our ocean, marine life and the communities that care so deeply about protecting it.

From education and conservation conversations to connecting with fellow ocean lovers, the festival was a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for marine wildlife and inspire people to learn more, care more and take action for our oceans. 🌍

And one of the highlights? Meeting the legendary Hermanus Whale Crier! 📯🐋 What a privilege to experience this unique part of Hermanus’ rich whale-watching heritage.

Events like the Hermanus Whale Festival remind us that conservation is about more than protecting individual species — it’s about people, education, connection and creating a future where our oceans can thrive.

🦈 WE CAME FOR THE SHARKS… BUT THIS GUY STOLE THE SHOW! 🦭👀

During yesterday’s shark cage diving trip our Team, passed through the infamous Shark Alley, flanked by Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. 🌊🦈

Home to more than 90,000 Cape Fur Seals — an incredible sight to see. but then… something much bigger stole the show! 👀🦭

Our guests got a VERY unexpected visitor when an elephant seal decided to make an appearance! 😍🦭

And yes… that nose is REAL! 😂

🦭 DID YOU KNOW?
Elephant seals get their name from the large, trunk-like nose of adult males. They’re also incredible divers, capable of staying underwater for over an hour and diving to depths of more than 1,500 metres! 🤯

You never know what might turn up when you head out into the wild ocean…
Sharks? 🦈
Elephant seals? 🦭

🌍🧹 WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2026 — 804 PIECES REMOVED! 🌊💙
Today, White Shark Projects joined people around the globe or World Clean-up Day 2026, taking action right here in Gansbaai at the Caravan Park.

Together, our amazing volunteers collected:

🗑️ 2 bags of litter
♻️ 804 pieces of waste recorded
⚖️ Approximately 10 kg

And what did we find?
🚬 77 cigarette butts
🍬 94 food wrappers
🧢 96 plastic bottle caps
🥤 88 straws & stirrers
🧩 159 small plastic pieces
🪟 115 small glass pieces
🎣 Fishing line, rope and net pieces
…and even pens, toys, a shoe, a toothbrush, a mask and a tile!

But today wasn't just about the numbers.
It was about people coming together and taking responsibility for the place we call home. 💙

A huge THANK YOU to every volunteer who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to help clean up the Caravan Park and keep litter from making its way into our ocean.

🌊 From our community to our coastline — every piece we remove makes a difference.

Let's not make cleanup a once-a-year event.

🌊🦈 SEA-ING IS BELIEVING! 🐙💙

21 SPECIES. 21 DAYS. COUNT THEM WITH US!

What an incredibly diverse part of our coastline! 🌊

This time in Gansbaai Harbour, our White Shark Projects team spotted 21 different species of marine and animal species — proof that you don’t always have to go far to discover an incredible underwater world. 👀🐟

From fascinating marine creatures to the animals that call this environment home, there’s so much to discover!

🏞️ NATIONAL RIVER CLEAN-UP DAY! 🌊💙

Launched in 2021 as part of Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week, the day highlights the importance of protecting our rivers, waterways and the ocean downstream.

🌍 FROM LAND. TO RIVER. TO OCEAN.

Pollution on land can be carried by wind and rain into streams, lakes and rivers. From there, it can travel downstream into estuaries, where freshwater meets the sea, and eventually reaches the ocean. 🌊

But for us, clean-ups aren’t just a one-day thing.

We do them regularly because pollution doesn’t stay where it is dropped. That’s why every piece of litter we remove matters. 💙

Yesterday, our team headed out along the Klein River in Stanford to help keep our waterways clean.

AN OCEAN STORY WRITTEN IN STONE 🪨🌊

As part of our 21 Days for the Ocean, our White Shark Projects Team, Simran Rupra, Aneleh Nel, Thando Impini, Liberty Drury and Tamsin Gray took a walk through De Kelders and made our way to the incredible Klipgat Caves.

But this is more than just a beautiful coastal walk… it’s a journey into the past. 🌍

Klipgat Cave is an important archaeological site where evidence shows that people lived here tens of thousands of years ago. Archaeological discoveries include stone tools, animal remains, marine shells and human remains, giving us a glimpse into how early people lived and depended on the coastal environment.

The cave is part of the Walker Bay Nature Reserve and stands as a reminder of the deep connection between people, the land and the ocean. 🌊

Thousands of years ago, the ocean provided food and resources. Today, it is our responsibility to protect it.

But behind every trip is a team that takes safety seriously.

Once a month, our Skipper Grant Tuckett puts the Shark Team through a full safety briefing — covering emergency procedures, equipment, and protocols on board our vessel named Shark Team. ⚓🚨

As our Safety Officer, Grant also oversees compliance and safety standards, helping ensure our team is prepared for the unexpected.

Because responsible ocean experiences aren’t just about what happens in the water.

They’re about the preparation that happens before we even leave the harbour.
