Lichens may look like tiny plants, but they’re actually a clever partnership at work. Each one is a team — algae making food from sunlight, fungi providing structure and protection — surviving together where few things can.

Some look like flaky paint splashed on rocks. Others spread in soft leafy ruffles. And some hang in stringy strands like green hair from tree branches. Quietly, all of them help filter and clean the air around us.

Once you learn what lichens are, you can’t unsee them. They’re everywhere — just waiting to be noticed. [y2oe6]

🦞 CRAYFISH SEASON IS CALLING | 2025–2026 🌊

The tide has spoken and the dates are set. If you’re planning to chase West Coast Rock Lobster this season, here’s the official recreational fishing window you need to lock into your calendar.

📅 Open fishing days only (12 days total):
December 2025: 20, 21, 27 & 28
January 2026: 3, 4, 24, 25 & 31
February 2026: 1
March 2026: 21 & 22

⏰ Fishing hours: 08:00 – 16:00
Crayfish must be out of the water and landed by 16:00 sharp.

🎫 Permits are compulsory
A valid recreational West Coast Rock Lobster permit is required.
Apply online via the DFFE portal.

📏 Daily limits (know before you go):
• Max 4 crayfish per person per day
• Max 20 crayfish per boat or vehicle per day
• Minimum size: 80mm carapace length
Undersized crayfish must be released immediately.

🌱 Fish responsibly. Respect the ocean.
These rules protect future seasons and keep our coastline thriving.

treated us to an awe-inspiring day of whale watching from their deck. What an extraordinary experience! Thank you so much 🙌🏼

Despite the strong winds on Friday, De Kelders provided a peaceful refuge, bathed in the warm embrace of the sun's brilliant rays.

The contrast of the vibrant blue ocean against the rocky coastline was truly mesmerizing.

We feel incredibly fortunate to witness such magnificent natural wonders in our own backyard.

The beauty of juvenile southern right whales breaching the surface, along with their mothers' graceful movements, is a spectacular sight to behold.
