**Travel Advisory | South African Digital Traveller Declaration**

Please note that, effective **1 July 2026**, the **South African Revenue Service (SARS)** has introduced a **Pre-Arrival Digital Traveller Declaration System** for all travellers entering or departing South Africa.

**Key information:**
• Every traveller is required to complete a digital declaration **within 24 hours prior to arriving at a South African border post**.
• Parents or legal guardians must complete the declaration on behalf of children and infants.
• Travellers are required to declare goods, including currency, in accordance with the Customs and Excise Act.
• **Only goods, currency or other items that exceed the applicable traveller allowances are required to be declared.**

We encourage all travellers to familiarise themselves with the new requirements and complete their declaration before travelling to help ensure a smooth border clearance process.
