George Tourism

George Tourism The official tourism bureau of George, situated in the magnificent Garden Route of South Africa. George is highly accessible.

Nestling at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, George finds itself at the center of natures “Garden Route” in the Cape Wildflower Floral Kingdom. Situated approximately 430 ks from the Mother City of Cape Town,

George is widely regarded as the hub of the Southern Cape Region. It is therefore the ideal base from which to explore the Southern Cape and Little Karoo. A good road network and the Geo

rge airport link the Southern Cape and Little Karoo hinterland to the major center of South Africa. It is the business hub of the region and offers a variety of conference facilities, restaurants and tourist attractions and activities.

15 ks east of George on the N2 between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reserve, you will discover Wilderness. Nestling between the wooded foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains and the warm Indian Ocean in a region renown for its incomparable natural beauty, vast stretches of beaches and tranquility. It is a haven for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Most people chance upon Wilderness for the first time after sweeping through the Kaaimans River gorge and rounding Dolphin Point. Below stretches a seemingly endless beach; in the distance are hints of inland lakes, rare in South Africa; to the left wooded hills tumble down to the village and further inland are faraway glimpses of the Outeniqua Mountains. Climate George’s mild Mediterranean type climate makes it possible to participate in outdoor activities throughout the year. Summer temperatures average 26˚C and winter temperatures average 14˚C in the daytime.

𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗽: If you are a wine lover, put this one at the absolute top of your Garden Route bucket list for next year! 🍷✨

On Saturday, 29 August, Fancourt hosted its iconic Winter Wine Festival, and it was an absolute treat for the senses. Over 30 top-tier wine estates were represented, including celebrated names like Jordan Wine Estate Precious Hidden Valley Ridgeback Wines Robertson Winery and Boschendal Wines offering tastings of their finest vintages under one roof. 🥂🍇

To match the stellar pours, Fancourt pulled out all the stops with juicy short rib burgers, smash burgers, loaded nachos, classic chicken prego rolls, crispy falafels and sweet, freshly made doughnuts. 🍔🌮🍩

The Garden Route coastline is one of the most spectacular places on earth for marine life! 🌊🐋🐬

Did you know that our coastal waters are home to superpods?

While typical dolphin pods range from 2 to 30 individuals, a superpod is a massive gathering where multiple smaller groups merge into a single mega-pod, sometimes bringing hundreds or even thousands of dolphins together to hunt, socialise, and play along the surf line.

Why we will never miss TEDxGeorge again… and neither should you! 💡✨

Spending August 8th Fancourt for TEDxGeorgeWomen completely changed the game for us.

The theme was “Rise,” and from the second we walked into the hall, you could feel an extraordinary energy in the room.

Lesego Tlhabi had us roaring with laughter while simultaneously dropping sharp, brilliant truths about modern society.

M I A L E R O U X delivered a powerful call to action on true inclusion and creating spaces built for every ability.

Tasha van der Watt from Ninas Cafe reminded us of the magic of food, heritage, and how family recipes carry our generational stories.

Romantha Botha reminded us that truth is complex, but it is ours to tell.

Shri Kali Mundo brought a moment of pure bliss with sound immersion, showing us what true mental restoration feels like.

Between crafting custom badges and sitting down for interactive lunch roundtables, it felt less like a conference and more like a community coming together to shape the future.

We walked away with full hearts, fresh perspectives and a massive list of new ideas.
