Today we celebrate the life of 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲 - my Roomie for life. The word legend gets thrown around too easily these days, as does character. But you were undeniably both. What you brought to the table, my Kleinboet, was verve. You challenged life - and everyone in it. You spoke your truth. You lived your truth. I’m immensely proud to have shared this path with you - mostly off-road. Wherever you walked, you left a mark. Like tyre tracks in the Namib, it will never fade. It will never disappear. You made sure of that.

We love you. We miss you.

Jy was soos ’n donderstorm. Die donderstorm bring weerligstrale, donderslae, wind en reën. Partykeer kom donderstorms van ver af aangerol en die weerligstrale is net blitse op die horison, terwyl dit hier by jou nog mooiweer is en die sterre is sigbaar.

Jou donderstorm was nie in die verte nie. Jou donderstorm was elke keer hier en dadelik. Jou storm was vol energie en lewe en kleur. Jou storm het geraas en gelag. Uitgelag en saamgelag. Die wind het ook gewaai in jou storm. Soms sag en aanhoudend, maar meestal hard en van enige rigting. Dit het alles omgewaai. Jou storm was chaos.

Maar jou storm kon ook lewe bring, soos enige storm. Jou storm het reën gebring. Gewoonlik was dit harde reën, maar somtyds ook sagte reën. Mooi reen. En baie keer was daar ’n reenboog aan die einde van jou storm. Jou storm het lewe gebring. Jy was lewe.

Nog n bietjie huil, en dan gaan ons lag, leef en beef net soos jy sou wou.
