Settlers Safaris was founded by Murray Crous in 2002. As a child of six years old he was introduced to hunting by his father. Although based in the MALARIA FREE Eastern Cape of South Africa, we hunt throughout Southern Africa and offer 46 species to be hunted including all of the Big 5.

What an awesome start to Timothy Leo Avalos hunt.... we worked super hard for these two kudu but we got it done. From cut up knees to hands full of thorns we managed to crawl ourselves into shooting distance and we made it happen. Two super old bulls down.
Huge congratulations to you Sir... you still have the body of a 21 year old... doing what you did took dedication and commitment....keep the passion going.

What a super special animal to hunt in South Africa....
The Axis Deer, not indigenous to South Africa but they sure thrive in the Eastern-Cape of S.A.
We managed to find this old male early morning but it gave us the slip. Searching long and hard we managed to find more but nothing that was of the same quality as the stunning specimen. We returned to the lodge for lunch and went out to the same area in the afternoon. It wasn't long and the tracker spotted him in the thicket along a old dry river. We re-grouped and worked out a plan to out smart this beast as we knew we only have one chance.
We got the wind in our favor and the sun at out back and waited... it wasn't long and he came out as we anticipated but the window of opportunity was small and the shot had to be quick..without hesitation we took the chance and the rest is history....one awsome amimal and a hunt that will be remembered for years to come.

Next animal on the list was the red duiker.... after sitting in a blind for 6 hours and only seeing females and young males we started getting worried that the monster we have seen on the trail cam has moved to another area..and then out of nowhere the monster finally revealed himself and in a split seconds the shot went off and the monster of a red duiker went down within 10 yards. What am emotional rollercoaster it was, but rewarding to say the least.

Another very important animal was the Civet... being nocturnal we had to wait this one out! Luckily it didn't take to lo...

Another very important animal was the Civet... being nocturnal we had to wait this one out! Luckily it didn't take to long for him to be lured out of the thich forest by the smell of fresh oranges and nuts.
Once again Jakub was on the money with a well placed heart shot and that was it for the Civit...

So the next adventure takes us up to the Limpopo province, where it all started, the same time last year.
Last year we worked super hard and put in many hours sitting in blinds, calling and baiting new areas. We only managed to get a small spotted gennet and honey badger but the elusive brown hyena was not giving us a chance.
This year on the other hand, we outsmarted him. I can't tell you how many hours of preparation went into this super special animal,but we made it happen!

Persistence and hard work are definitely two words that comes to mind.... but it was all worth it at the end.

Huge congratulations to a animal of a lifetime... absolute monster of a brown hyena.
