When I first started out as a young Professional Hunter, I was often told I was too honest for this industry.

I took it as a compliment then, and I still do today.

The Year of the Horse has been an absolute chestnut mare of a year — tricky, unpredictable, and at times enough to test your focus. There have been plenty of moments where it would have been easy to lose sight of what truly matters.

But just like every long journey, all you can do is keep your eyes on what’s important, work hard, and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. One day at a time.

Much like the Great Fish River winding its way through valleys, cliffs, and obstacles, the journey only ends when it reaches the Indian Ocean. Until then, it keeps flowing.

So we’ll keep pushing, keep believing, and keep putting in the work. The destination will come soon enough.

Zwy’s journey has been nothing short of incredible, and none of it would have been possible without the amazing people who got behind him from the very beginning.

To everyone who donated and supported him last year—you know who you are—thank you. Your generosity has changed a life.

A special thank you to Steve from X-22 Adventures for the unbelievable donation of the knee, and to Shaun from Saltlick for sharing Zwy’s story with Steve and others. The support and encouragement have been truly remarkable.

To Dr. Ettienne from EZ Orthotics and Prosthetics, thank you for standing with us from day one. From roadside visits and special trips to check on Zwy, to ensuring he was comfortable every step of the way, your dedication has been outstanding. You guided us through the entire process, answered countless questions, and handled every broken test socket and adjustment along the way. Three sockets later, it looks like you’ve absolutely hit this one out of the park.

This journey is proof that there are still incredible people in the world willing to help complete strangers. Because of your kindness, Zwy has been given a new lease on life and the opportunity to live it to the fullest once again.

From all of us at African Brothers Safari, thank you to everyone who played a part in making this possible. We will never forget it.

As I sit here listening to the rain falling on the tin roof, I find myself reflecting on the past safari with Donnie. What an adventure it was. Seven days of perfect weather, countless conversations throughout each day, and a reminder that good, honest, hardworking people still exist.

Having the privilege of being Donnie’s PH on his first South African safari was something special. Knowing he chose our company over some of the larger outfits out there is truly humbling. It reminds me that honesty, integrity, and genuine relationships still mean a lot to people.

Donnie, I hope our paths cross again for another hunt someday. It was an absolute blast—even if you did forget to load the rifle for that bushbuck! 🤣🤣🤣
