Updates on Limpopo’s Cape Parrot Project...

Updates from our Limpopo team:
🦜 We counted 194 Cape Parrots in March, up from 164 in February and 88 in January—our highest count yet and a positive sign for Limpopo numbers!
⏱️ Each movement is carefully logged—where they gather, when they roost, what they eat. In March, the team spent 30.4 hours observing Cape Parrots across multiple sites.
🌰 Pecan season is in full swing. At one of the orchards we monitor, we recorded 88 parrots in a single evening. They’re now feeding on a mix of ripe and unripe nuts.
🌾 We joined DFFE, SAFCOL and the Green Scorpions this month to inspect illegal logging of protected Matumi trees near New Agatha—a case that highlights the continued pressure on forest habitats.
🍑 We also recorded feeding on Wild Plum (Harpephyllum caffrum)—an important indigenous species in their diet when available.
