June 9, 2020: Despite the fact that we are now fully in wintertime in South Africa, we still have a beautiful garden with the daily warm and pleasant daytime temperatures of around 22 to 24 ° . The many flowers and beautiful colors do not give the impression that you ever have winter there.we are in winter. The colder nights (up to 2-4 °) have no influence on the floral splendor. Many aloe varieties are currently budding and should be fully open within 2 weeks.

May 18, 2020: Due to the lockdown, cannot go on a safari, but then we only spot what is in our garden all crawling around and flying. Today was already a fruitful day.

Just another 'Garden Inspector' (Junonia archesia) against the facade of the house. It is a medium-sized butterfly - mainly brown in color with orange band on both wings and at the top purple with white spots. This species occurs along the coast of Eastern Cape - Kwazulu Natal and in the province of Limpopo and North West.

Furthermore yesterday and today a 'Regal Fruit Chafer' (Taurhina splendens) - a 3 cm green beetle that only occurs in the Limpopo and North West province. Furthermore, a well camouflaged grasshopper the 'Truxalis' in the dry withered grass. And then 2 beautiful Wood Ducks or Carolina Ducks (Aix sponsa) on our partition wall. Not surprisingly, I did not find them in my South African literature because this is a duck that occurs in eastern North America and migrates to southern America in winter but certainly does not cross the Atlantic Ocean and is therefore completely alien to South Africa. Presumably imported specimens that then escaped and have now sought refuge in Hartbeespoortdam with the lake as fantastic decor.
